Loss of earnings
« on: March 24, 2020, 12:21:03 pm »
I have only been in business for 2 tax years so do not have a full round in this already competitive area.
Yesterday I was informed that I have lost all my Thursday weekly commercial work as the camp site has been closed down, that is about 30% of my very modest income, also I declined some inside residential work yesterday for my customers safety and kept at least 10 feet from everyone.

I am not due back to my 4 weekly customers until Monday but I suspect we may be instructed not to go back to work for many weeks, just my guess.

A couple of customers mentioned to me that there maybe some provision for the self employed to claim 80% of lost earnings.
I know it is early, but who would that need to be claimed off?
I get the feeling the process is going to be long winded and complicated and so much information will be needed.
I am in my early 50's and only started contributing to a SIPP last year, £100 a month (better late than never), if the help is means tested then the over 55's may be told to use that before claiming.

You should not be asked to  use your sipp.
I do not think the gov would take this into consideration.

Read the other threads.

Absolute best case scenario is you’ll take your last 3 tax returns, divide the profit by 36 and you’ll get 80% of that upto a maximum of £2960 per month.

I’d be more than happy with that.

I feel that this will only actually take effect from when we are directly told we MUST NOT carry on working, and this hasn’t happened yet imo.

I would be grateful for anything.
I only have 2 years tax returns as I went self employed January 2018, previously I was out of work for a year after getting laid off without redundancy.

My earnings from window cleaning were tiny compared to some on this board, especially during the winter.
Now is the time FSG and Conservatory roof jobs would be coming in.

I did read a few threads before posting but did not see any mention of the possible loss of earnings help.
I'll take another look.
