Oh I'm not going now
« on: March 24, 2020, 07:17:32 am »
After listening to boris speech last night I was convinced it was OK for us to carry on working.

I still am but having read a lot of response to it both on forums and social media it just doesn't feel right, so I've decided to stop.

I will just feel too awkward to be out cleaning at the moment, be like walking on eggshells...every job I pull up to I'll be thinking do they want here... Plus everyone and their kids are at home making it all the more awkward.

b******s to it, just have to wait to see what financial help they put in place because I've a feeling it will be weeks before it gets rolled out.

I think this is the right decision mate, it will just feel SO awkward and weird working hopefully we will get 80% up to £2500 help.

Really want to work, but feel the same Adam.

Just feels wrong. And VERY awkward pulling up on driveways, whistling away whilst there isn’t a soul on the street.

I might go and test the water (no pun intended) but don’t want to pee off the first few customers I go to, for them to cancel permanently if there really annoyed at the ‘arrogance’ of the window cleaner turning up.

Who knows, it could be fine...

Before Boris's speech I sought advice from close friends to get their thoughts on whether I should clean today. The general consensus was I should carry on. So I sent my usual text to customers saying we are cleaning and leave back gate open... etc etc. within 5 minutes of the speech we had 4 cancellations. I did think the speech was ambiguous but interestingly the same friends I sought for advice from messaged me to say the decision had been made clear for me not to clean.

it was with a heavy heart that I have decided to postpone cleans and remain at home for 3 weeks but think it will be longer.

Stay safe.

Even if you put the health risks aside its not good business practice to go out.   I work alone and have very little contact with customers like the rest you but I'd like a business at the end of this and don't want to damage its reputation by turning up and carrying on.  Even if it is possible, the general public won't see it that way and will form an opinion of you.  There's still plenty we can do at home.  I'm getting on top of my accounts and revamping my website to start with and then on to the massive list of jobs my wife has put together !

He could never make a speech that could name every trade-job in the country, therefore unless you are a key worker I think it’s common sense to realise what he was in about tbh there was nothing ambiguous about it.

Yep, leaning towards not going now on moral grounds, hoping for much better clarification today, what i don't want is a scenario where some carry on and some don't because over time that's when you could lose work to those that are prepared to carry on. Not that I'm in the fed but sure they'll be looking to put a clear message out ASAP. Keep safe lads.

We're not on the list

This issue is not about key-workers. The key-workers issue was about home schooling for kids and the job those kids parents had.

Nowhere in Boris's speech yesterday did he refer to key-workers being what defines if you can go to work or not.

I won't be working but I'm looking out my window just now and just as much traffic, joggers and dog walkers as there were yesterday. Every other vehicle going past my door seems to be a trade van. It's looking to me like nobodies taking a blind bit of notice.

No

Lets make it clear

We are allowed to work, theres no questioning that unless you are a bit thick

But ive decided not to because it feels wrong, if you have thicker skin than me crack on

The reason there is a variety of opinions is because the message is open to interpretation. The words essential and key workers seem to appear and then get deleted pretty quickly on the government sites.
I think morally, we shouldn't be working but legally we can so the choice is yours at the moment. Calling people thick if they choose to work or assuming they have lots of cash in the bank if they choose not to work isn't helpful.

Not a clear message but the fed definately implying we shouldnt go to work, theyve chosen to use the words "key worker"
