Quote from: Windy Miller on March 23, 2020, 10:08:48 pmSo when it's all said and done, the willy waving about cars and holidays doesn't amount to much if you're going to have to work through the biggest peacetime national crisis in a long time in a trade which typically relies on the older and subsequently more at risk members of society! The vast, probably 90% of my round is under 60 so speak for yourself.

Quote from: G Griffin on March 23, 2020, 10:01:22 pmHe can't stop you working because there are no laws in place to do so. Yet. There probably never will be. It's not easy passing new laws, especially ones like that. He's asked you not to work- the message was clear- but there's not a lot he can do to stop you. We're not North Korea. Come Thursday, he might be able to move you off the street or give you a slap on the wrist. Did anyone really think it would be about window cleaning or the self employed? People are dying and take a look at the rest of the economy! Even McDonald's have closed. They sorted them this afternoon, they'll be signed off by Thurday latest.https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-52004116

WE ARE SHUT DOWN..
Quote from: britishwill on March 23, 2020, 10:21:55 pmWE ARE SHUT DOWN..Only if you want to; gov isn't stopping people from travelling to work
I would find it too embarrassing , staying home is hard when you know you can be making money. But the police may send you home . our work is not Essential . Name Essential work to keep our towns and Hospitals running I like most now wont be working.
Housing minister has Saudi construction workers...they can carry in as long as they carry out social distancing. Out of 30 customers today I interacted with about 6 and kept a good 6 foot between us. 👍
"You must stay at home" - pretty unambiguous IMO.
Because they can't. Yet. It is unprecedented. Schools were open last week and now they are not. It can change like that.
Quote from: Cookie on March 23, 2020, 10:44:41 pm"You must stay at home" - pretty unambiguous IMO.There's four exceptions.Travel to work is one of them, if you can't work from home. These are the rules: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/874714/Full_guidance_on_staying_at_home_and_away_from_others.pdf
Rules? There'll be laws coming in. 329 pages. I doubt they'll mention window cleaning but ignorance might not be the best defence.

It was a speech, ffs. You keep going on about rules. It's not a playground game. We'll know more when the laws come out and even then there'll be discrepancies.
