Possible cash grant?
« on: March 18, 2020, 01:40:10 pm »
Not sure if this will apply to us guys, but hearing from Rishi there may be a £10k cash grant for us self employed.

Someone with more details may be able to explain further.

Don’t think it applies to us, on a quick google search.

It’s ok them lending money out it’s like having a huge limit on a credit card even if it’s interest free all these things still have to be paid back,I’d rather wait it out and see what’s happening first before running up any debt.

Not a cash grant, grants are a gift.

But, even if it was a loan, it may be some self employed people’s only option, doubt we’d need it in this ‘trade’ though.

Bother in law is being made redundant as of Friday next week. Sad times for so many.

Think you need to google the word ‘Grant’.

I'll be honest looking into it; it does read that small companies even those paying no business rates would be eligible for £10k. For 700,000 small businesses that's £700 million - a drop in the ocean compared to the proposed £330bn. It may be the only way some of us can survive these uncertain times....

Its 10 times that, £7 Billion.

Regardless we should get that I reckon, then we could all get a hot water system and an Ultimate 46' from Alex and have enough change to get a bag of chips and go down The Flicks.

Ah £7bn that's right...sorry thought it seemed low! It's how long that £10k has to last is what's worrying, we could be locked down for months....

Getting it will be one major issue.

No one knows where to apply, or if they qualify.

Still not certain we qualify mate, I think it’s only people who rent a unit/business premises in the retail/leisure sector

When it was introduced during the budget he said it was every business.

We'll see. As you'd expect from a government run by Alexander Boris De pfeffel Johnson it's as clear as mud.

I've googled it to death and can't find any info as to where or whom we would apply for a loan.

My local MP replied to me on fb and said the self employed will be entitled to £73 per week, apply and paid for by DWP. Good luck with the application process to DWP.

I wish I hadn’t bothered filing and paying my self assessment in January now.

Is that only if country goes into lockdown or can I claim if customers are all cancelling? my round is small and still building so I could find myself earning barely anything if the majority start cancelling.
If it came to it where I’m barely doing any houses I’d rather stop for a few months until things calm down and claim the £73 a week, it’s not a lot but it’s better than nothing.
