Omg Customers.
« on: March 09, 2020, 06:24:43 pm »
A job i took on 3 years ago was having their windows cleaned for £8 but they weren't happy.  I said ill do it for £16 take it or leave it.  They were reluctant at the price but took me on they needed my service more than i needed their custom at the time.  The last 3 years they have been excellent customer always pay on time, nice and friendly and atleast twice in the last 3 years they have said "oh please do let us know when you want to put the price up for the job"

In my head i was thinking "are you mad?  Ive already doubled your price and now your virtually encouraging me to put the price up you absolute looney."

Anyway, so today is our first day of letters going out and every customer is getting a letter and a price rise even if i feel they are already priced well.  Who kicks off?  The same customer.... Said they werent happy with the increase of £1 as we were too expensive already and they are not happy!!!

What???  You've spent the last 3 years literally telling me to increase your price and now that i do your suddenly saying we are too expensive?

Some customers make me laugh.

2 new customers today in any case so i'm not losing sleep!

Just thought that was a funny one.

I've also got about another 5 customers who over the last few years keep asking about price rises.  Lets see if they kick off aswell if they behave as i am expecting them too LOL

After reading some posts on here about price increases - some saying write an essay - some saying don't even tell them - I opted for a happy medium: Tell the customer if they're in, if not, their "Windows cleaned" slip says As of 01/04/20 your new price will be £xxxx.

I've always done a polite letter, your price is going up because of fuel prices, bank charges blah blah blah. So far with the minimalist approach I've had nothing. No one has said anything. Nada. Zilch. Nowt.

It's the future.

nowt as queer as customers!ive not had any problems yet putting up prices.....a few grumbles but i soon put them straight.....when i show them the inflation calculator! :D

why should i work for less money than i did 5 or 6 years ago?it doesnt make sense!the value of the pound in our pockets is constantly being eroded as the years pass.....

i dont want to be that "one scrim bob" who never put his prices up for 30 years......what a sad state of affairs.... :(
price higher/work harder!

I'm in the "don't tell them brigade" and I can honestly say know one has ever questioned why i added £1 to the bill.
Yet when i use to write letters before price rises i would get some question it or even  a couple of cancellations.
It's simple really, don't make a big fuss about it and the customers wont either. Everyone expects prices to rise.

Some who have had a bit of a moan when I’ve told them they’re going up by £1 have then given me £2 more when I’ve got round next time.

I’m sure some complain because they seem to think it’s the thing to do.

One of the first rules never think you really no a particular customer ever,I’ve had them over the years when you think if I want this job for life I’ve got it only to find out you never really knew them at all.

Believe it or not Jon it was a customer thats directly opposite some of the ones you handed over to me.  I picked it up soon after taking on your round!  They were using a trad cleaner before me who was skipping windows left and right.

I had a round where the prices were only £7 per house.  At the end of 2018 I put them up to £8 and by the start of 2019 I hiked them to £10 min.
I had 2 customers who said they werent happy but will keep me on until they find some body else. Now, I know two other cleaners who will do so for £8 and they work in the area.  The truth is, if they went I dont care but as of yet, they are still with me lol.
Some just like to moan even though they completely understand the logic as to why they need to go up

They were long over due to be increased and they needed to come up to my min charge rate. I was going to do so at a pound per year but changed my mind. It needed doing and if i lost some, so be it. As it turned out, i lost no one  ;D so far

Dont be daft daz,   these prices were the same for a good number of years and more than due an increase.   Now that they are £10 or over, they will stay that way for the next couple of years.
Plus they have the choice to get another cleaner if they dont like the price, which they are told about a month in advance. So they even have heads up to get somebody else as well. So i think thats fair

Na, I’m not believing anyone is so brazen to put prices up twice in two months. I would tell you to sling your hook.
