DBS Checks
« on: March 06, 2020, 08:54:59 am »
Hey guys
Bit of a tangent to window cleaning ...

Has anyone had any experience with DBS checks ,

I’ve just had a call from a company with a couple of nurseries that want doing regularly .

It needs me to be inside during work hours so I need a DBS check if we get the job.

The wife has one for working as a carer for an adult in their own home , but I’m not sure it covers her for working around children?

I don’t have one , does anyone know which DBS check you need for a nursery ?

I got mine from Disclosure Scotland.
You can get one without being referred by an employer and I seem to recall it was cheaper.
It is valid as Scotland is part of the U.K. still (just) ;D ;D

I had to do one for driving the coaches  as it’s transporting kids. I did the “interview “and had the photograph done at the local council hq, but it’s the enhanced dbs check so it covers me to work in any council area. Contact your local council and enquire about a dbs check. If you do the full disclosure, you get the option of signing up to auto renew, here in Newcastle it costs £13 a year, you pay it direct debit and it saves you having to go back to the office each year and doing the process again.

Above is the link for the government advise etc.

You apply yourself and not via the council, you would always be better getting the enhanced DBS, saves having to redo if wrong one obtained.

As you are the business you apply on behalf of yourself and it lasts for three years.

There's one for adults and one for children I believe

Good luck getting one they can take months.

R lass got a new job in December and applied for a DBS check. It only just turned up this week. 3 months it took to arrive.

Basic DBS is available here, and costs £23

I do a solicitors office and they had all kinds of stupid requests for stuff, including DBS check.

I got sick of them as they kept coming back asking for more stuff, must have been at least 6 times. It was only a £30 job and I wasn’t all that bothered anyway.

So I replied saying I didn’t have a DBS check as I’d never needed it before, but I had no objection to getting it as long as they paid for both the check itself, and my admin time sorting it at £50 per hour.

All of a sudden it wasn’t important anymore.
