So would you stay home and lose 2 weeks money or would you keep quiet and carry on regardless (very stupid)

Depends what my symptoms were like.

If I was really poorly I would stay at home, if I felt fine I would work. Same as I would with any cold/flu/illness.

But I don't come into contact with anyone, it's not like I'm going on a bus a train or to a crowded office.

If it's merely symptoms I doubt whether you'd know it's corona virus until you had a test. The "flu-like" symptoms description is a great catch-all for everything from er... flu to lassa fever.
In a self-employed job I reckon you're more likely to just keep working and try and muddle through illness out of necessity.
I await hman's money-bag-pole-adaptor that allows custies to drop their money in a bag and avoid being in breathing distance of us.
Which suits me with some customers tbh
The good thing about science is that it's true whether you believe it or not.

You do realise 80% of people that have corona either don’t realise, or just develop mild cold like symptoms.

Out of the 20% that develop flu like symptoms, 1% are hospitalised.

There’s literally no way to stop this virus spreading.  May as well embrace it and just carry on as normal.

Although I think it is being blown out of all proportion, I would self isolate IF I KNEW I HAD IT.
Unless you are a hermit you are going to interact with people and your family and friends.
What if as an indirect consequence you had shut an entire school down or worse,  infected a care home and residents were to die  ?
Ignorance is bliss as they say, you may not even know it was as a result of your descision. But I would want a clear conscience.

So many on here boast of earnings, their flashy holidays, vans they drive etc. etc.  . As frustrating as it would be to take 2 weeks off, it wouldn't be the end of the world. Most could afford to and its not lost money, just money not earnt yet.  What about these emergency funds people harp on about ? Isn't that what they are for ?

I've recently read that they estimate that 5 million people in China have already had it and most didn't know that they had it. The bigest problem is the sensational reports from the media - nothing else to report on.
The mortality rate for Coronavirus is estimated to be arround 3% and the mortality rate for a full on influenza outbreak is arround 2%.  They should be focusing on safeguarding the people at most risk - the elderly, very young, people with chronic illnesses etc.

Surely if you have it you won’t feel well enough to work anyway?
I don’t work much in the rain, buggered if I’m working on with the flu.

I did notice the Gym was at half capacity last night so either everyone is staying away or they were out panic buying.
I think the media will do far more damage than the virus to this country.

As the first poster said, if I felt ill, I would stay off, if I felt ok, I would work. Let’s face it we are working outside apart from when doing inside work, so not coming into that much contact with people

If I knew I had it I would be curled up in a ball in bed drinking water and feeling miserable.

People don't seem to be getting the point.
If you knew you had it, its not just about not working. Its self isolating / quarantine.
My partner works for a care organistion with very vulnerable severely disabled residents.
Even if I didn't have it and was no  risk to her, she could catch it off someone on a train or bus who's spouse was an infected window cleaner who knew he had it but carried on regardless because he didn't give a monkeys , and felt well enough to work.

Remember the so called "super spreader" in Brighton who came back from Singapore  ? With so few confirmed cases in UK it was easy for his movements and contacts to be traced and contained. What if they hadn't in enough time ? How crap would he have felt if he'd come in to contact with someone that resulted in  death/s  ? ......think on it.

And how exactly would the world function if everyone stayed at home?......here’s the chain of events.......

Power grid goes out, - no one there to repair it.
Deliveries to Tesco cease.
Doctors close down,
Chemists close so no one can get their prescriptions.

Unfortunately the wheels have to keep turning. If everyone self quarantined then more people would die as a result.

If you know you have it, of course you’d stay home.
Unless everyone starts carrying it then we may aswell just all keep going unless we are too ill to work.

Anybody that would carry on visiting customers properties as normal, knowing that they were carrying the virus, is an idiot. Simple as that.

I'm afraid an event like this highlights how low down the "vital services" chain we are. No one died from dirty windows. No excuse whatsoever for any window cleaner to go out who knowingly has it, and for the time being if  I show cold symptoms I'll just have to take a financial hit. As already pointed out, if it did turn out that  you had the virus but thought you only had a cold it could be a death sentence for the elderly. We're in the same boat as the rest of the working world, we've just got to adjust our expectations for the time being and be responsible. Far worse  professions to be in,  the publicans are already suffering without all this, I bet this will be the last straw for several.

That was my point and the original posters question. Not everybody is going to get diagnosed or catch it at the same time which means the likelyhood of a national lockdown and vital infrastructures failing is unlikely. Its about prevention and containment thus protecting the most vulnerable in our society. With such a new strain of virus, little is known. If governments can "nip it in the bud " early enough it has less chance of being completely out of control or possibly mutating and becoming an even bigger problem.

Funnily enough, the gym I go to is still as busy as it was before the emergence of corona.

I expected it to her quieter..

The problem is that you will already have had the virus 🦠 for while without knowing, so you’ve already passed it on to your customers .

Exactly the point. ^^^

There’s no way currently to hide from
This.

Do you quarantine yourself if you feel you may be coming down with the flu and don’t want to risk giving it to anyone over 60? The answer is no. Life goes on.

I’m not a big conspiracy theorist, but I really think this is big hype by the media.

I may be proven wrong though.  ;D
