Pay cut
« on: March 02, 2020, 08:18:30 pm »
Not a moan but lost a job today it was a hair dressers and was 20 a week
Nice easy job always paid and always seem pleased meternaty was the reason
£80 a month worse off
Second job was a Kung fu school
Badly paid at 10 a week but now needs it done every three months had to smile through my teeth and went away
Dumped away but I wonder how they would react if they were
Taking a pay cut like this
Pay cut of 120 a month
this business has got to be one of the worst types of zero hours contract before the term was invented
it can't just be me surely?

Last month the first job of the day was a pub I clean for £25.

I turned up and the landlord said you don't do insides do you? I misunderstood the question but long story short someone is doing inside AND outside for £25 and asked if I could match it. I said no way and snap their hand off if they're any good!

Get a call to quote a new house in a new close in a new area we are covering. Get there and it was a nice detached house but with hardly any windows, i quoted £25 and got the job. Customer then said to knock number 1 and 2 so I did and we got all three.

So in true CIU style, dump one, gain three.

I know my story won't make you happier but just when you think you're out they pull you back in!

You need to learn how to get new customers if its that big of a deal.

I lose a few customers every month for one reason or another. The old shifting sands as Daz puts it...

In fact I lost 2 just today, one went from 4 to 8 weekly the other cancelled altogether.

But I can easily pick up more when I choose. Picked up about 8 new ones last week, I'm sure some of those will be filtered out and gone in the next few months..

Personally I always like to have more than I need which means I'm constantly running behind but it's better than not having enough.

Exactly you want to be about 2 to 3 days behind on your frequency. Over a long period of time it will probably dwindle down to right on time.
Then you'll need to top that round up or just keep an eye on it and make sure you're just slightly late.

It’s not actually a pay cut, as a pay cut really means doing the same work for less money. You can fill that spare capacity with other work.

If you don’t increase your prices every year, that’s the same as a pay-cut, because inflation happens whether you like it or not.

Personally I have never taken on weekly work. Too much of a pain to organise if you want to go on holiday or get ill. But I know guys who absolutely love it.

I quoted a a few jobs last week. Got half of them which I think is right for me. One I didn't get was a large three storey house with big extension on the back plus conservatory. I quoted £35 every six weeks. "we used to pay £12.50"?
One of the great things about this work is you decide the price and you choose your customers. We all end up with the business we choose.

IMO you shouldn't need to be bursting at the seams with work every day to make a decent living, been there done that many years ago.....

Now for me it's more of a round I can manage fairly comfortably without having to work long, tiring days and being constantly late(I very rarely am)
price higher/work harder!

Exactly mate, well said.

We lost a £270 4 weekly job at the end of last year as the people left after renting for 3 years. Also we cleared the (lots of) gutters, washed fascias etc every 4 months, so quite a few £k yearly lost overall.

Of course I would rather we have it still, it was never going to last as no jobs do. But I made the most of it when we had it, and always picking up new jobs which will cover the loss.

Just get on with it and price higher!

its totally impractical to put prices up every year IMO.......if its a 2 monthly job then your putting their price up every 7th clean!every 3 years is more sensible...even then some customers think you only put them up a year ago! ::)roll ;D

That's true,  As for loss of a job, one door closes another opens. It often happens with me
