Just been to Ionics
« on: July 06, 2006, 01:23:13 pm »
I have still not taken the plunge and bought a wfp system yet.  :'(

I have just been to Ionics in Swindon which is just down the road from where i clean. A very helpful sales rep called Patrick took the time to expain the systems to me and showed me all the equipment and even let me have a go with a few different poles.

I have 2 different cost set ups. One for a 300ltr and one for a 600ltr tank.

Could you guys please give me advice on wheter this is a good deal or is there anyone else who could do me a professional set up for a better price.

Both systems include speedliner flooring for van, 4ft, 18ft and 35 foot poles. The 35 footer is ergo-light carbon fibre. 2 x metal hose reels and 2 x 50metre tricoflex hoses. Both prices include full installation costs and the 600ltr comes with a pole rack.

300ltr - £6484.65 including VAT
600ltr - £7683.15 "                 "

Regards,
Sunshine

All the big suppliers' prices are beatable but price isn't the only consideration.  There are things such as back-up service, location, quality of goods, standard maintenance costs etc to take into consideration.  Also bear in mind that the larger suppliers need to recoup their outlays for research.  I could go through a number of things about three suppliers I have dealt with listing things in positive/negative columns> They all have their strong points and not so strong points.
What I would say to you though is that, assuming your van's payload is OK with it, a 600 litre system should be looked at as a bare minimum - especially if you are looking at getting into largish commercial jobs.  I have managed to use 700 litres in a day before now but, more typically, it's more like 350 or 400 litres.  I suggest allowing for the biggest days work you are likely to do.  Having an on board RO unit to make pure water while you work doesn't always work out if you have no access to a water supply or adequate drainage (particularly in very cold weather).

They are quite tasty prices, try Gardiner poles, I think you pay alot at Ionics and the likes for their name.

you should also take recomends on good aftersales as well.they all want to sell the systems but most of them are lacking in the aftersales.
to test the after sales call them up wiyh a made up problem(tds is running at 10 ).lsee who calls you back.
also some firms take forever  to send out an order ,even though they say" sending it today " and two weeks later your still waiting.
be very carefull what co you buy from.
the best supliers ive used so far are gardinerpolesystems.the others ive used leave a lot to be drsired.
at present im waiting for a pole from brodex which was being sent"  today "2 weeks ago.last order from them i ordered resin and 1 week later get a hose reel.
rant over.

you could just build your own if your having a van mount

http://d.co.uk

its another option and will only cost you around 600 - 700 quid for the setup

then pocket the 7 K for something else

have a look at the DIY forum aswell, you will find its easy enough to build a system with the same pump and brushes as others use

After-Sales - very important. Are they interested in fixing problems that are of their own making. I had several problems possibly caused by a Friday afternoon installation & several times was asked to return to them (300 mile round trip + lost income).

Eventually, reluctantly they agreed but even had the nerve to phone me on my mobile to tell the person sent not to be too long - Chronic!

Beware

Dont pay it , build your own for gods sake !
I have 425 L DI only system , ok i dont have the carbon pole , i do have all the same size fibre glass poles , only one reel and hose for £1700.00

Add the cost of merlin or RO.MAN £300.00 tops = £2000.00 , a bit of a saving dont you think ?

I had demos from ioincs and tuckerand I am so glad I did not buy either of their systems.

My system was fitted by Facelift in Derbyshire about 140miles away. Brodex was nearer about 60 miles down the road, but Brodex were a lot more expensive.

Facelift some times do very competitive packages for a 400ltr system and their poles are sold all over the country with a very unique clamping system which was designed by a very clever enginer called Phill who fits their tanks in the vans as well.

I have a 800ltr tank fitted in my van, with pole holders intergrated on top of the  tank.I paid £3800.00 incl vat to have my system fitted and if I were to go wfp again I would buy from them again. Yes I could go DIY and save a few bob, But My van system looks drop dead gorgoues. Heres what I got for my money.

800 ltr Black tank. With stainless steal frame fitted through the floor with special shaped glamps which fasten round the chassis rails underneath the floor pan.
2 x fixed metal hose reels.
John Guest fittings
2 x 60psi flowjet pumps.
1 x 85amp battery in its own battery box.
3 x resin chambers filled with resin
2 x mini pole
1 x 18' pole
1 x 38' pole
1 x shurflow backpack.
40 x 40 RO unit on stainless steel stand with 10" pre filters.
1 x  water tester.
