Gardiner gooseneck plastic barrel nut - metal replacements?
« on: February 23, 2020, 05:36:40 pm »
hi

i have a constant problem with the little plastic barrel nut that the bolt screw into in the gardiner adjustable gooseneck https://gardinerpolesystems.co.uk/all-products/water-fed-poles/goosenecks-pole-fittings/gooseneck-parts/resi-neck-lever-set.html

i'm forever stripping the threads on the little plastic barrel nut. i can't see any replacement metal ones on the gardiner site, in fact i can't even see replacement plastic ones just the complete clamp. has anyone managed to find metal replacement barrel nuts that will fit on ebay or somewhere and can point me in the right direction?

Have you not got an old pole? I thought they changed that years ago. What are you doing to strip them ??? Surely you must be over tightening?

"Have you not got an old pole?" not sure what you mean, this is the gooseneck clamp not the pole clamps i'm talking about. all the adjustable goosenecks have that clamp i think? changed what?

no not overtightening but I just use them for fascias mainly and hence i adjust the angle quite a bit but being a plastic nut it's going to strip fairly easy whether you over tighten or not hence why i was hoping to find some metal ones.

In all the years I have been using wfp I have never had an issue with this and we have 8 poles on each van , I think you must be doing something wrong , over tightening them or something?...

I had this happen recently for the first time in 12 years. Mind you the gooseneck in question is a good few years old. Fortunately I replaced a number of pole clamp parts recently and I didn't throw the old parts away. It's the same size barrel as was in the clamp levers I kept and I was able to just swap one out.

Hi Roland

hi alex

searching my reciepts i had some of them that i bought as spares back in 2013, were they plastic then? so you're saying they are alloy now?  the ones i have are plastic and as far as i can remember i would have only bought poles or brushes etc from you. but maybe i'm wrong on this?

I’d call a 7 year old pole old. My 1st Gardiner SLX was from around 2013  or before & I thought the barrel nuts were plastic around that time, even the plastic angle adapter clamp, before the clamps were updated.
Alex will be back to confirm or not.

Hi Roland

I have looked back and for a short while in 2011/12 these were supplied with plastic barrel nuts, but this was replaced by alloy in 2012. So you may have a very old angle adapter that has a plastic thread. At 7-8 years old the plastic has probably become more brittle with age and use.

Looking at your account it appears that you bought a replacement lever set for the goosenecks this month - the barrel nut in this will be alloy.

We do not sell these alloy barrel nuts on their own as I do not think we have ever had one fail in use. If you do want to buy just a barrel nut on its own then you can buy the barrel and locking nut from a clamp lever set and these fit  :)

hi alex

thanks for getting back to me. oh that's really good to hear i had my last two plastic ones go in quick succesion last week hence my order, and concern, but I hadn't opened the packet of my order yet and looked at it and just assumed it was still plastic hence my post. i haven't cleaned windows for years but have a slx25 and slx47 that i use for occasional fascias and conservatories so they don't get used much as i am mainly gutter clearance and pressure washing so a bit out of the loop on poles and brushes these days.

anyway that's great and thanks a lot for the quick response.

thanks Alex, i just checked and it was plastic ones that i had previously, but i've just tried the alloy one you sent and that's much better, problem solved, cheers
