So I have been doing this for over two years. My motive as I get older is lightness and ease of use.

I use cheap Claber reels on a throwaway basis. (I would happily buy electric and would if I used microbore)
I have about 65 metres of microbore on my reel, then a brass connector followed by 33 metres of streamline pole hose.

Benefits.

It is light and easy on my old bones. I can flick it around readily.

I can loop up to and including the 33 metres of pole hose and easily carry it to the first "pinch point" and then walk to the farthest point to work.

If it springs a leak outside about the first five metres I only replace the 33 metres of pole hose. (The microbore - which is used far less and pulled round far less corners lasts "forever".)

Downside

I only use Streamline. Gardiners pole hose (which is not intended for reels) will bulge under pressure and within a couple of weeks will be as big as microbore and thus not easily looped or carried and not much lighter. Streamline lasts without bulging.

The joint between the two hoses can catch and be a weak point. Often you can repair it by drying it, covering it with glue and using fusing tape to finish off. You need different sized hose clips each side of the joint and it is best to put glue or sealing compound on the brass barbs of the joiner.

I'm not certain but I think the internal bore of microbore and streamline is 6mm and 5mm respectively and so care needs to be taken to make this joint secure.

Unknowns.

I use water between "cold" and about 30 degrees (immersion) - I don't know how "hot" would effect the streamline.

I don't use a flow controller.

*The reason I put 33 metres on is that I buy 100 metres and cut it into three for replacement purposes.

I use the green gardiner pu hose with hot water and its quality, lasts forever and doesn’t bulge like the yellow stuff does!

Second mufcglen’s comment.  I’ve been using the original green PU hose from Gardiner’s for years. I frequently fold it to cut off the flow and have not yet managed to split it. The yellow all season hose is a pvc hose and certainly not up to all the folding. Used to split regularly when I used it.

I very rarely dead end my pole waters not an issue I always have a full tank,you’d be better off with using the usual 100mts of micro-mini and double the length of your pole hose.

I did same with 100 m of the green stuff but with cold water for a couple of years. I started to get bothered by it not laying flat ( worse in winter ) but probably behaves better with hot. Very durable and lightweight though but went back to micobore because of its trip hazard issues.

I use 80 metres microbore on a petal reel - the bright yellow ebay stuff. I use hot (well, very warm) water and the hose is rated to 80°c and I've not seen it bulge yet. I step that down via a rectus fitting with golf ball style protector to gardiners green pole hose, then via a push fit to the length of similar pole hose permanently attached to the pole.

Pros? Nice and light to work with. Gardiners green has lasted 4 years and only signs of wear are through abrasion and snags. It's very supple when warm and lays flat. The connections last a couple of years too. In fact I've not replaced the push fit in that time.

Cons? When cold both sets of hose tangle for fun, leaving quite the trip hazard for myself, customers and the great unwashed. The green pu hose LOVES to snag around car tyres and wheely bins, seemingly just to spite you.

The petal hose reel has taken a battering and has lost it's powder coating within the first 4 months but is still going. The next one will be fixed in the van with a diy electric reel conversion. Until then the reel/hose set up has worked really well for me but I'm always up for any improvements.

Electric reel. (Get an electric reel, you will thank me , honestly) 30 metres of microbore reduced down to 100mtr of Exceed yellow pole hose. Exceed tubeless set up.
Easy and light. Can trap the hose in the van doors and also  customers uvpc door thresholds, again without any flow restrictions
Never gets punctured well, not in 4 years of use
Immersion heated water and still no dramas
Finally a set up I’m happy with. Until those blooming new gardiner jets, there pants when using a swivel

Off the top of my (empty) head, it's 30 metres.
I use 3mm pencil jets and my controller is set around the 55-60 mark. It keeps the water warm and a good flow at the brush

Tony do you shut van doors then pull out hose through gaps or do you pull all hose out then shut doors?  Also why do you find the gardiners capsules jets pants?

Im just upgrading to electric(in progress) i have tubeless setup and use exceeds pole hose its the best pole hose ive ever used by a long mile.  Cant stand the gardiners hose any of them.  Also i use microbore aswell but 70m of it and only 20m of pole hose i may look into changing this however i use slick connect so wondering if that will be a problem....

They do red, yellow and blue. I have used yellow and now use red. Both are fine. Blue is a bit cheaper but may not be so visible on path and roads?

But note tlwcs's post after mine - he uses exceed pole hose AND an electric reel. That must be brilliant.

I have 100m of 8mm hose then 80m of gardeners orange pole hose on my reel, this stays on all the time. I simply discount from the brush head jg fitting and reel the lot in, u can wait for the hose to drain off but I just reel it in but I do get excess water running out of hose for about 30 seconds, the orange pole hose is brilliant I honestly couldn’t fault it, opens out no problem straight off the reel

its got to be more of a trip hazard using 100m pole hose on your reel for sure compared to microbore.......
