its hard to keep up spirits in this weather.......
« on: February 19, 2020, 04:15:04 pm »
...when you work alone.....its been truly awful today.........it hadnt forecast heavy rain til after lunchtime but from my first house to my last its tipped it down with a cold breeze....IMO this is the worst weather to work in....wet and cold....

luckily only 5 large houses to clean today for me.....10am-230pm(30 mins for lunch and to dry off and get warm!)so 4 hours "on the glass"and a £200+ day so not bad....in my old trad days i wouldnt of earned a penny on days like these! ;D

10 jobs to clean tomorrow then another 4 day weekend for me...... 8)

put 2 jobs up a fiver each from next clean as well.....no complaints
price higher/work harder!

Similar day for me. Started on first cleans at 8am so had a dry 2 hours to start then got soaked from 10am onwards.

Large fascia/gutter clean to do tomorrow then 3 days off.

I can’t remember it being this wet and miserable for such a long period of time for ages now. Spring time can’t come soon enough.

This last week has been a grind hasn’t it, not so much the rains as round here other than the odd day its only been raining heavy late in the day.
Its the winds that have been a killer, cleaning windows and knowing the windows won’t be amazing in a few days isn’t a nice feeling for me🤗
Another month or so and it will nearly be shorts weather and at least were working early doors in light weather now not dark mornings!!

Been fine here, but then it’s much drier here in Essex.

I wouldn’t work in that weather Daz, unless I was desperate for the dough.

Why not have a day off next time it’s the same weather?

Fair play mate.

I don’t take for granted how dry it is where I am, it’s not often I lose a day due to rain!

Aye its been rough this last week or so, High winds and rain everyday.

In general I'm getting fed up of this job anyway. Body is starting to ache constantly, fatigue and pretty depressing.

I would rather work with a worker to be honest, makes it a bit more bearable.

That's said, I've finished for the week lol back on Monday.

Sometimes it’s hard to know when to stop. If the jobs are booked in with unlocked gates etc, I always try and get those done at least but sometimes you just have to call it a day.

No he chose to live near hay, his job was in Hereford. The only jobs in hay are book shops!

February has to be the worse month of them all, but head down and get on with it.
Hope we don't have another Beast from the East this year - can't do a thing in that weather.

I don't like working in the rain but I have my customers largely trained that if I turn up then I expect to clean.

So I just prepare my van for the day and tell my self that even if there is just a two or three hour gap in the weather then I will be out cleaning. I also am pruning my round to keep the cream and ease off a bit and so occasionally I will test the water - (pun) - on (say) a sole marginal property and if I get turned away I can dump it and if not then I know I can do it on rainy days - thus putting it on the right side of the margin.

Yesterday I worked two hours then the rain came in as I was finishing an elderly lady's house. When I arrived she asked if I did "insides" and I said "not really" and she accepted this but was a bit disappointed.

As I finished I knew the weather was in for the day and I was going home so I tapped the door and said do you really need the insides doing because the weather has come in and I can do it before going home.

She jumped at it, made me a tea and gave me biscuits and I got an extra £15 for a nice chat in the warm. OK it was an extra half hour and a poor hourly rate but I wasn't doing anything else productive.

I also told her "this is our secret, mind - don't tell your friends that I do insides on even very rare occasions  ;D"

But that little job paid for my running costs for the day, took me over £100 and at least I'd done something.

It's a game of three halves!

I’ve had a cracking day, 2 large offices (monthly cleans), 1 internal/external and 1 internal only. I’d finished the external by 8am when the rain came so the rest of the day was spent inside.

One of these was priced for all day and only actually takes 2.5 hours too, winner.

That call back you mentioned on another thread has probably knocked your confidence and made you see sense....cleaning in wet and windy weather is never a good idea😁
