Anyone using the phantom poles , my friend has one and he says the clamps are really bad is this true

stick with gardiners...CLX,SLX or xtreme poles

They are no worse or better than Gardiner's poles they all wear and spin last slx 5 months it was doing my  head in so I bought a phantom this also wore very quickley.

The first designed clamps wasn’t that great, I had to mod mine but wcw have redesigned them and they’re much better now.
Personally I prefer them to gardiner clamps as you don’t get as black hands with the rubber inserts that Definately wear on the pole less  plus if you ever had a clamp come loose you’d just need to tighten it up again with an Allen key whereas gardiner are glued on however I’ve never had any gardiner clamps come unstuck so that’s a nothing issue.

I have for the last ten years only used Gardiner poles. SLX's and Extremes.

Alex has been very helpful and his advice to me to get the most use out of a pole has been excellent.

So this is what I do. (I use an Extreme 20 for everyday work - essentially this is the top four sections of an Extreme 25 - almost as light as an Extreme 18 but a little more reach.)

Maintenance. Clean it regularly. Use a towel to wipe the pole hose when putting it away between jobs.
For me at about one year in on my "regular" pole, buy new clamps.

At two years I bought the top three sections of an Extreme 25 (so keeping the fourth section - the fifth is not used as I just pull out my Extreme 47 for higher jobs) which has essentially renewed the pole for just over half the cost of an Extreme 25)

I am a year into  this and will shortly order a new set of clamps.

BTW - the three sections of extreme I replaced last year went into my 8 year old Extreme 47, replacing its top three (stepped - and one broken) sections.

A note on Extremes - they are much more fragile than SLX's. Don't close stiff windows with them or drop them!

personally i couldnt be arsed faffing about changing clamps or removing sections...

an xtreme 25 is my main pole for EVERYTHING under 30ft including f/s/g/conny roofs and suchlike

xtreme 47 for occasional higher work

i flush them out with water regularly and wipe the pole hose every time i put the poles back in the van...i also spray them with PTFE lubricant........

i buy a new xtreme 25 every 12-18 months(usually when the top 2 or 3 sections start to split and get brittle)...the xtreme 47 is many years old and will last many more yet as it only gets used around 10 times a month.

i might do this  in future malc....(buy the top 3 sections of an xtreme 25)as its always the top 3 sections that wear a lot quicker than 4 and 5.......
