New 35 foot pole?
« on: February 07, 2020, 10:15:32 am »
I use this size pole for about 15% of my work and was thinking of SLX 35 or Supermax 35.
Before Daz comes on and recommends i spend a fortune please give me some sensible suggestions girls and boys ;D

SLX  is a great pole even at 35ft.

Unless you either don’t like money or have a bad back, then get an extreme.

Can’t fault mine for the money , had the 35 a couple months now , can’t believe I was too tight to retire the facelift 35 for all that time knowing it was a scaffold tube  ;D

I'm so lazy I'm getting tired of it !

it just depends what your using it for......if its for very  high velux windows and solar panels on 2 storey roofs then forget the SLX s as their too whippy at 35ft-40ft at an angle..(the bend catches on the gutters even with the pole above your head!).if your just using it for straight up and down windows then the SLX should be fine.....rather you than me though! :P
price higher/work harder!

I would go xtreme if you use it regularly, I only have an xtreme22 but keep an slx39 for a few windows higher I do every month and my goodness its like a big floppy cock, when fully extended it can’t even hold its middle sections up without scraping on roof etc.
If your new to the game, still building work and on a budget and only use a longer pole for a few jobs Then go slx but long term you’ll want an xtreme if its used often

I'm 63 and work about 12 hrs a week on the glass.
I've got an Smax 47 at the moment, only used on a few jobs with the bottom 2 sections detached.
Around £500 for a new SLX 35 or maybe an Smax 35
Around £1000 for an extreme for a part timer like me mmmmmm!!!!
Thought I'd go for either the Smax Mk 2 or SLX.
About 40 quid difference in price.
Thanks for the replies so far lads, even Daz, bless him
If i can cope with  the Smax at the moment, i think i might give the extreme a miss, my Mrs would blow a blood vessel or two, seeing as she's after a new kitchen ;D

Oh and it's straight up work Daz ;D (comercials with great hourly rate)
The Smax 47 will be getting refurbished and put on ebay

12 hours a week and straight up work, if at 63 your grafting fine now pal I’d Definately go for the smax or slx then if it was me over an xtreme as its not like you’ll be doing it 6-7-8 hours a day so you won’t get that tired😉

I have an extreme 35ft it’s Whippy when fully extended,I have to leave about 6-7” before the red tape to stop it being so whippy.
I would go for there next pole up the one with the yellow base section they might start at a longer length but I believe they are stiffer

the slx are great but heavy and at 15% you going to know about it so buy the extreme 47 is the way i would go we have

a mk1 that gets used everyday that s11 years old its just about finished but still earns good money , we have 2 mk2 and 2 mk3s best pole ever however the golden rule is dont shut windows with them and you will be fine

we also have 2 ultimate poles for work over 60ft , these are great very stiff but are alot heavier then the extreme after you have been working with them after 2 hours you will see it , our lads in new york use 47sex as daily poles its the goto pole rather then the ultimate

For purely residential, what bigger size pole is best? In terms of do you go for a 35 as the original poster mentioned or bigger??

We have trouble reaching windows that are set back from pitched or flat roofs and normally have to get the ladder out and either step on the roof or pole off the ladder which I'm concerned isn't very safe.

We use SLX-27's, which are fine for most work. I need a buy a bigger one tho.

Cheers

I use a 35 pole about 2 hrs a week at most,  that's not all at once, 3 years to go to retirement. (maybe)
I used my Smax at 35 feet yesterday in high winds on one of my best Comercial jobs (for 15 minutes).
The rest of the job is done using an slx 18.
I think a new Smax 35 is my choice for value for money considering my requirements.
Cheers for the comments folks.

I use a slx30 every day and then about 2 yrs back or so, i bought an extension with the intent on adding it to the pole, as n when.  I never did!  Its been on the pole since I bought it and I use this every day with a 14 inch brush.
Im just shy of 6ft and use this to clean town houses n velux roof windows.  I have no real problems, but the flex does sometimes mean that the clamps can catch on the gutter.  Im thinking of adding another section for these jobs tho
