How can you get close to a house with a van system?
« on: July 05, 2006, 10:33:25 pm »
Guys, Please help me with this problem.

Quite often I arrive at a row of maybe 3-6 houses that I need to clean. The only problem is that there are cars parked in a row outside these houses. How do you access them?

You would need a 200m hose ???

How do you all manage?

Hi
This is a problem. I have the same situation and found that between 10 and 2 is the time when there is the least amount of parked traffic. What about Saturday mornings?

Other consideration would be a trolley system. But would the revenue from the cleans justify the cost of the trolley?

I use a trolley.  If it is too much hassle filling the trolley up several times, it may be possible to just go around the tops of the houses with the trolley and blade the lower windows after.

What length of hose do you have on your reel in the van/car.

What type do you use? Does it kink?

I use a van system and if i can't get close enough for the hose i will get my trolley out.

If you are only going to use one now and then you may aswell buy a backpack as they are cheaper but do hold less water.

Not sure who you are asking but I have 2 x 50metre Tricoflex hoses. I work alone but they are handy as they can be daisy chained (though there are very few jobs where I need to do this).  As they are Tricoflex, they tend not to kink though it has happened a couple of times when I wasn't paying attention.  I tried hoselock pro previously but, in spite of the claims, it does kink at times.

I have one reel with 75m microbore and another with 50m microbore.  Have yet to come across a house or situation I can't do.  With saying that it could happen, in that case I'd daisy chain the reels together.

What is microbore?

Is it a standard size garden hose?

Does it kink?

technically microbore is 8mm or less, we use a 6mm microbore that is triple layered out to 11mm (outside diameter).  Its much lighter and easier to use than standard hoses like tricoflex etc but ours is completely different to what the likes of Gardiners etc sells so I can't say what theirs are like although I've heard good things.  Our microbore is unkinkable (yes I know some will laugh and say yeah right but I can assure you that after using it for over a year we have not had one kink, the hose is still in really good condition (prob another 2/3 years life left in it).  Other microbores may kink but you'd need to try it first.

All my vans have Orange flashing lights fitted to the roof and if ever we are unable to park outside then we just park in the road next to the entrance and put the light on along with cones on the floor.

The police are happy then that you have taken every precaution to maintain a safe road system.

I also have 1 x 60m hose and 1 x 100m microbore so it is very unusual that I can't obtain access.

Best wishes,

I supply it in 50m sections, 100m sections available on request.

It is very expensive and only available in blue but we've found it to earn its cost back in no time at all.

£65/50m
£130/100m

E-mail me j.mills175@btinternet.com for pics etc.

Just spoke to a supplier and have ordered 100m of hose which I have been told is FAR better that microbore.  They are still testing it but should have it by the end of the month ;D

Over 100m the microbore looses 17 psi :(

The new hose I will be getting only looses 3 psi over 100m ;D ;D

good man, glad you got sorted, make sure you let us know how you get on with it whether it kinks or not etc, progression is the key.

I use an estate car and so a trolley plus tank and hose is too space-hungry.

I have 100m of microbore which works fine off a 60psi pump and a shurflo backpack for the odd job where parking would be difficult.

It's a game of three halves!

I have a couple of sheets of rubber matting.  I bought them from
http://www.polymax.co.uk/mainframe%20rubber%20products.htm
I got the ones with the yellow border around them for visibility.
