40 40 flushing
« on: December 26, 2019, 02:05:10 pm »
I have a pumped hf5  membrane on the system is it better to flush the system with pump or off I have always been flushing with pump on but I read  somewhere  it better to off of pump to trickle the water through to  protect the membrane 🙄

When Gardiners sold booster pumps they advised that the booster pump should be switched off during flushing.

One reason is that the water authority regulations in the UK  require that any booster pump fitted to the network must not draw more than 12lpm of water from the supply. If your booster pump draws more than 12lpm you need to have a break tank fitted which is "a whole new ball game. "  Most booster pumps will draw more than 12lpm 'open' - ie when flushing with waste going direct to the drain. Hence flushing with the booster pump on will mean you fall foul of the regulations. This regulation is to protect the network.

If memory serves me Alex once stated that the most a 4040 membrane would use with the correct waste to pure ratio was 9lpm from the network.
My unpumped 4040 HF5 uses around 4.5lpm at 50psi.

I'm not sure if a high water pressure during flushing will damage the membrane.  If this is the case, then I ask how those with normally higher water pressure manage.
