I have seen a Fiat Fiorino 1.3 turbo diesel multijet van advertised for sale, and am wondering if any of you guys have any experience or knowledge of these vans please?

It's a 2008, with 160,000 kms on the clock. The body looks fine, but there are a couple of issues:
1. Slight tick from engine when cold, but runs fine.
2. Needs new wiper motor or linkage.

It's tested until February, and pricewise it seems very reasonable for its age and mileage and given the above issues (providing issue 1 is not serious).

Any thoughts you have would be much appreciated.

8i would be very wary of buying a vehicle with a ticking noise.

Particularly if its chain driven which I think they are.

Could be nothing but could be cam chain or tensioner on its way out. Which if that fails its a lot of money to sort if not a new engine.

I would want to see if the cam chain had been replaced and have someone inspect the vehicle to identify what the noise is.

But a 2008 van with 160k and a ticking noise I would just walk away and find another. Itll be cheap for a reason.

High mileage not much test left on it, ticking engine I would walk away there will be better out there mate. If I ever look at a vehicle that's used I want to see all receipts for all work including servicing and get my mechanic mate to look at it. if I'm in any doubt about it i would rather keep looking than waste my money.

Your business is well established now. Have you thought of leasing a van that you own after the lease is complete? I would also go for new or nearly new, pre-registered etc. if I still had a long working life still ahead of me.

Personally I would stay away from this van as other have said. Buying high mileage can be costly on future repairs. This vehicle  just doesn't sound good.

I bought a 62 plate Peugeot Boxer recently. It was well looked after with 89k on the clock. Its cost a lot in repairs this year - windscreen wiper motor assembly as driver's side spindle seized, new alternator and a new turbo intercooler pipe. As a precaution I also replaced the oil pump and sump as the same engine used in the Transits and Landrovers had an oil pump recall for vehicles made between 2011 and 2013.  Citroen and Peugeot know nothing about faulty oil pumps on the 2.2hdi engine sourced from Ford.

160,000 kms is only 99,000 miles - seems low mileage to me!

However , I wouldn’t buy any vehicle with a ticking noise

I have one  , great little van , when you say 160 km do you mean km or miles ?
Either way it’s over the 100,000 miles that I think Fiat say is time for a timing chain swap
If I bought it that would be job one , but tbh I would probably walk away

Which I like but I have a glow plug on the blink

Possibly an Earth wire problem
Very very faint warning light glowing

I’m only a third of the way from paying back the bank of wife😬

All this is my own fault not saving 10% of what I earn

And not earning enough

It’s a ball ache repairs and maintenance so Spruce’s advice is good

I like fiat Doblo and P@f loves his florino

Vans are all pretty much same now different badge

Heard on radio fiat trying to buy up or was it merge with Peugeot 🤔

Even using rac or AA inspectors is not brilliant

You get an in depth report that only a qualified mechanic can make sense of!

If you were a qualified mechanic you wouldn’t be paying for report

Vans are a lot more complicated now technically

And a lot more expensive to repair

Recently used forte engine flush
Turbo clean and dpf clean

Dpf another problem!

Also 2021 October ULEZ pollution tax £12 a day will come into force on my van I’m 99% sure all my round
Is NOT affected

Worse case handful of customers fall inside ULEZ zone

Totally unaware of all this when I bought van

But was 17yrs old 😁

I had for 13yrs
Ford escort van (I loved😍)

If only I was clever enough to save £1000 a yr for 13 years

just buy a new van, I have just ordered a new Fiat Doblo Maxi with 1.3 engine, it will come with 5 years warranty so piece of mind,

if you buy a clapped out old van with 100k+ on the clock you will be wasting time and money on repairing it.

this is your chance now johnny.....how old are you?57?......at least another 10 years left of window cleaning (probably)...get a brand new van,kit it out  with WFP ....you ll never look back.......by far the best thing ive ever done in 26 years of window cleaning.....

Stay clear of the RENAULT TRAFFIC  I've got 66 plate the dpf warning system has come on 3 times in the last 2 years had it checked but back on again I have 23000 miles on the clock
