Is my pump worn out?

Shurflo 100psi coupled to a varistream controller. I-m havjng to run the pump on a pressure of 8 which is full pressure, and fliw rate of 3 to get any kind of spray.  Reduce the pressurw and its just a trickle, increase the fliw and it builds up pressure, cuts off pump then builds up again and cuts off, then repeats. Any clues anyone?

sounds more like power supply problem to me...

how's the battery and wiring connections ?

Connection fine, battery connected to 30amp telay so is charging all time engine is running.. 12.34v without engine on, 14.2 with engine running. Have multimter but dont know how to use it on amps

If your calibration is set on 8 you need to up it.

Varistreams come preset from the factory at "C" for Shurflo pumps.

In summer we get away with "A" and up it to "B" in winter. I usually work with a flow of 3 but if I need 4 (with 2mm pencil jets) I need to up the calibration to "C". Fan jets do restrict the flow of water much more than pencil jets.

I've found quite a difference with flow using microbore this year. For the past 12 years I have used minibore. We have 2 hose reels on the van, one with microbore and the other with minibore. I'm currently using the minibore.
Success is 1% inspiration, 98% perspiration and 2% attention to detail!

Re calibration maybe although after you turn the van off it’s still under half charged at that reading you mentioned.

Inline filter could need cleaning if you have one.

this time of year if your batteries are on their way out this weather will find them out for sure.....recalibration is very common as well.......set your CAL higher.....
price higher/work harder!

Check there's no kink in hose between tank or pump or pump an DI. Sounds simple but easily overlooked.

I know how to adjust the pressure but it makes no difference. Pressure set at 9 the highest it will go. I was on 8 with flow at 3, turned flow to 4 and pump hits max pressure and cuts off. Increase pressure to 9 and drop flow to 3, get steady flow from brush but its been doing this since October see my other thread " what is at fault". Would it be worth removing leisure battery and resetting control pressure to 8 then running off van battery to see if anything changes?

Is your battery not on a split charge relay?

If it was try the pump with van running I still suspect low batt power

It was but I took it off as suspected it was faulty. Turned out not to be, it wss something else. This was last year, been running it on permanent relay since. No way of testing leisure battery now as the meters cant test tje amps as they aren't cranking amps. Only way is using the old prong type tester that goes across the terminals, but almost obsolete nowadays. No one uses them anymore. Will try running directly from van battery and see what happens.

Battery is knacked i'd say. A fully charged battery should read more than 12.34v.

Had it tested and it passed . not battery related as I put the pump ditect to van battery and made no difference. Calibration now on A with flow of 3 and doing ok with that atm. Just tested van battery cold 12.10, leisure battery 12.82

Push it up to "C" and see how it goes.
I can use "B" on 3 but not on 4 as it pulses.

Could be air in pump take pipe of exit side and pump on full whack

First thing I would do is clean the pump strainer. In 18 years of wfp every pump/flow issue I have ever had has been down to a blocked strainer restricting the water feed.

The strainer has been cleaned out and I’m using the pump on  B.
It has made an improvement running on B.

It's not your pump, that's for sure.

I've run the same 100 psi shurflo pump for over 10 years, all day every day. No issues.

Where's your ground? Could be dirty. Check connectors, don't use those blue crimp connectors, use bullet connectors at the very least.

Hook up a fresh battery as well. In fact, forget that, I've used nothing but the van battery itself for nearly 10 years. It works much battery. Hook battery charger up overnight, wire in permanently, just in case you do a short mile day.
