This is a worry:
https://uk.trustpilot.com/reviews/5c8b874e97afa10af01f79f7Basically there was (is) a fault in the GoCardless system. People can be signed up with an account that isn't authorised if they've checked the joint signatory box. Failed or cancelled payments are automatically pushed back to Cleaner Planner (not sure about the alternatives), but unauthorised mandates are not.
Technically you should reconcile every payout you get from GC but how many do??
Luckily it appears I only have one customer where this has happened - £88 worth. GoCardless have said that the problem was fixed in January 2018., worryingly the one I have a problem with signed up this year.
I just set up a dummy account without authorising the joint signatory and although there wasn't an email notification sent through that an account had been created, it appeared as active on my dashboard. As long as I have a matching email address in Cleaner Planner an unauthorised mandate will sync up and appear to be active and appear to be paid when it isn't. Other than reconciliation or going in and checking the payments there is no way I would notice.
As far as I can tell, you can check if you have any unauthorised "active" mandates by going to your GoCardless dashboard > payments > filter the list to show "Pending customer approval". I will need to go through everything to make sure now though...
