GoCardless fault - CHECK YOUR ACCOUNT
« on: December 04, 2019, 09:07:39 am »
This is a worry:

https://uk.trustpilot.com/reviews/5c8b874e97afa10af01f79f7

Basically there was (is) a fault in the GoCardless system. People can be signed up with an account that isn't authorised if they've checked the joint signatory box. Failed or cancelled payments are automatically pushed back to Cleaner Planner (not sure about the alternatives), but unauthorised mandates are not.

Technically you should reconcile every payout you get from GC but how many do??

Luckily it appears I only have one customer where this has happened - £88 worth. GoCardless have said that the problem was fixed in January 2018., worryingly the one I have a problem with signed up this year.

I just set up a dummy account without authorising the joint signatory and although there wasn't an email notification sent through that an account had been created, it appeared as active on my dashboard. As long as I have a matching email address in Cleaner Planner an unauthorised mandate will sync up and appear to be active and appear to be paid when it isn't. Other than reconciliation or going in and checking the payments there is no way I would notice.

As far as I can tell, you can check if you have any unauthorised "active" mandates by going to your GoCardless dashboard > payments > filter the list to show "Pending customer approval". I will need to go through everything to make sure now though...

I have contacted Cleaner Planner about this issue too as you would expect it to recognise an unpaid transaction.

We had that happen with a domestic account, Aworka marked as paid so hidden for a considerable time, ended up around £300, fortunately client understood and settled accordingly.

Clients are sent emails from GoCardless requesting completion of dual signature mandates, unfortunately these are often ignored, in our instance a dual signature wasn't required - a misunderstanding by the client.

In my opinion the account should not be active until they've received the correct paperwork.

The writing is one the wall, and the warning signs are not to be ignored.  Time to act and put into place a new method and start switching customers over steadily.

Basically GC are marking accounts as active when they are not.

CP is not recognising it and is marking the payments as paid when they are not.

It is only an issue is the customer checks the joint signatory box and fails to authorise the second signatory.

I just looked and I think my customer has a typo in her email address so will not have received any notification that further authorisation is required.

How do you have cleaner planner mark payments as received ,when submitting it or when it actually is received into your account. I've had payments not received but then cleaner planner shows that and I 're submit,  but I have cleaner planner Mark as paid only once it's received.

What’s the point in GoCardless for you then Nathan without round software?

The whole point for me was for repeat late payers & it automatically marking debts as paid.

What domestic customer  has a joint account requiring a joint signature?

But obviously I don’t like the sound of a payment being marked paid when it’s not paid. Worrying.

Because Gocardless doesnt regulate my cleans lol.
I dont require a software to record my rounds.  Dont get me wrong, i think they are a great aid and ive tried a couple. Initially I loved Squeegee and paid for the app, but I couldnt get on with it. Its far easier to write my books out, perhaps twice a year and just mark when they have been cleaned.
I leave spaces between my rounds to allow for new clients to fit into the round and then line through the ones who move or die etc.   Its far easier.

End of the year, just update my spreadsheet on line from my books and jobs done.
So GoCardless saves me chasing up payers and leaving tickets etc.

I have it set as when submitted, it needs to be or it'll still be on the debt list. Failed transactions and cancelled transactions bounce back to CP as you'd expect, it's just this particular instance that's a problem, it doesn't fail it just sits there pending.

I tried squeegee for a few months and couldn't get on with it either.

Far too many bugs and issues with the service and the whole layout is just really fiddly.

Cleaner planner is much much easier to use. It's simple and integrates really well with go cardless.

It will save you a few hours a week for sure.

WELL! I flagged this with Rob ages and ages ago and his advice was to have the GC debt's clear when its paid into account. Since then we can spot this issue as the payment will never arrive. Rob said it would be fixed but I said it was a major bug and needs the word to be spread  ::)roll ::)roll ::)roll

Fs don’t like hearing issues popping up when I’m just trying to switch to GC.

Iv just started trying to switch customers over to GC and it’s going very slowly.
I tried posting letters to explain it all so far to about maybe 300 customers and 20 have signed up.
I don’t understand customers sometimes I thought this would be a no brainer for them.

You need a “what’s in it for them”

Pretty much all new customers go GC or will ring in and pay by card as that’s the options given but when we did the big push a few years back we tied it in with a price increase, Those that signed up to gc  kept the same price for another year - it worked pretty well

There is a strong argument for not supporting a cashless society.
