Anyone had this happen before
« on: December 02, 2019, 06:29:34 pm »
On way back home after a long day get a phone call from a customers number, I pull over and answer, the guy says “hello this is ****s partner, what time did do the windows today”
I replied thinking off the top of me head “sometime around 3ish, how come, is their a problem?”
He says “Well I was around til 3 so was just wondering”
I said “might of been just after 3, you would know I been as the windows would be wet, your dog was also barking at me the whole time”
He was like “oh yeah, was just checking, ok mate cheers”

I’m fuming with this as he was basically trying to Accuse me of not doing them, how should I proceed with this?
I feel like texting the customer to say it’s best you find someone else as you obviously don’t trust me, or should I put price up on new year?
How would you guys deal with this.

I would have simply asked "why, as I hope there isnt any issues"
Just get straight to the point that way and then take it from there.  Sadly some people still dont trust window cleaners / bin cleaners etc and maybe for good reasons.
Dont take it so personally and let it go

maybe he was up to no good and he wanted to check he hadn't been caught...

i wouldn't worry too much about it. you cant really know what people are thinking, and its really easy to assume they are thinking ill of you.

he asked you a question, you answered it honestly. just forget it.

if it becomes a regular thing and you start to hate doing the job just ditch it

yep had this 3 times in the last few months!

never had it before this year!

Case number 1

First time was a few months ago, i got a phone call. "hi youve put a note through today to say youve cleaned the windows but not actually cleaned them"

of course ive cleaned them i said about half 11.

"well ive been sat in the back all day and not seen anyone, they definately havent been done"

so i said they definately have, sorry you havent seen me but can assure you i wouldnt post a note and not do them.

Anyway he went silent and then said, well we have a problem then because i was sat in the back room all day and know they havent been cleaned.

so i said look i can promise you ive done them if you dont believe me no problem dont pay for the clean ill take you off the round and i hung up (i felt like killing him!)

later that day got a text from the wife...hi the windows were not done today however i would be happy for you to call back tomorrow and do them.

no thanks i said, ive taken you off the round im not being called a liar.

Anyway she paid for the clean in the end but got dumped.

Case number 2

Only about a month ago, cleans all the windows on a house.

irrate phone call 10 mins later..."youve not been round the back!"

i have i said, cleaned all the windows! now i though im not having this again so said right i`ll call back now and have a look

Anyway goes back, and he says here look that window still has cob webs on it.

He was right  ;D what i had done was cleaned all the back windows but i had missed the one where he was sat in his chair! all the others had water on apart from that one.

i apologised and that one was sorted...

Case number 3

And then just a few days ago i sent a payment reminder.

"Hi, what will the price be as the back windows were not done"

I thought, i cant believe this whats going on lately! so i said yes cleaned front and then the back.

Text back... well the wife was in the shed in the garden all morning and she is adamant no one came in the back

oh i give up  ::)roll , i just said no problem if you dont think they have been done just pay for the front, so he did!

Haha at least it’s not just me it’s happened too then, maybe I got too riled up, it just felt very cheeky, pretty much accusing me of trying to scam them. I think he felt stupid in the end but still he was trying to play it off like “oh, I was just checking”
I will leave it as it is but if I get any issue with them in the future they are being deleted from the round, they’ve already skipped once  , giving me the line “no thanks they are still clean” and they are every 2 months....

After a few years you will realise that people have all sorts of stress going on in their lives and it sometimes gets directed/deflected your way.  Don't take it personally or respond in the same way. Keep calm and carry on {missing the odd window}.

Don't worry about it.

I had the same, got it all cleaned, customer said I hadn't left a slip. Bugger! I gave them my bank details on a text.
Then they said I hadn't cleaned the bird strike, properly, off their french doors!

So I went back and checked, all looked ok! So I phoned them (thought what's going on)!

I cleaned the wrong house!

What a laugh!  ;D

Do you clean all the frames properly this alone makes all the difference I cleaned a job today all PVC frames they were filthy, they were dripping on 1 bay she came up to me and said what a difference you’ve made now you’ve cleaned all the plastic.
You could just be 1 of these cold Pikey cleaners that leaves all the frames and sills lol.

Because you only clean in the rain you're not going to see any missed windows.

a few years back I had a call from a customer saying I had not cleaned the backs to which I replied had

she went onto to say that she checked her cctv and did not see and sign of me around the back of the house

in the end I gave up arguing with her on my insistence that I had regardless of what's on her cctv

the outcome was, I told her to pay half the invoice and to find another mug

If your away with the fairies, then you might miss  window here or there.  Other than that, you miss windows on purpose, ie frosted glass for instance.  Either way, i dont miss windows.

I dont know if ive shared this story, when I did purposely miss all the windows and posted a ticket!
Its going back to my trad days. I charged extra for cleaning frames and so often, most would want just their windows cleaned. Though I did clean n wipe the sill. This one time, a customer refused to pay me because their frames were dirty which was prove in his head that the windows hadnt been clean!  Even though they were.  We had a big dispute over it.
The next clean, i simply cleaned (wiped over) all the frames and totally left the windows and posted  a ticket.   Later that evening, I went and collected, fully expecting to have another debate/falling out as you could clearly see the windows were dusty. Any way, he paid up with no comment. So i told him  what I did and mentioned to get another cleaner.
