« on: December 02, 2019, 06:25:19 am »
Been using rectus 22 and 26 if that's what they called
For years currently back on the bigger ones the 26.

Can anyone tell me what the best connections are?I've never tried to plastic ones are they actually better? because these things tend to corrode I must have replaced 1 per hose reel per month..lately

My rectus last ages. Probably been on over a year..

But I rarely disconnect them, I suppose if you are constantly un clipping them you wear them out.

Yes constantly disconnecting.
How do you keep yours connected do you have a tap attached ? I've tried that too but tap gets damaged and starts to leak as you drag it.
slick connect I had that too. Spent like £100 on it.they start to also leak.the oring gets dirt inside and it starts to leak.not for me went back to rectus.

I've never tried the plastic hoselock you know like tap fitting on pole like the garden hose one.
Its plastic so cant corrode at least are those any good?

Average rectus fitting lasts 3 months
Only buy the pukka Parker hannifin ones

The guys connect pole in the morning and disconnect at the end of the day - rarely more than this

Cold water you’ll get away with John Guest straight fitting microbore to pole hose, probably get away with it for hot too.

Even when you first fit those EZ fittings when new you should make sure that you use a lubricant, spray under the metal sleeve that clicks up and down it’ll make it last 10 times longer.
For years I did actually have bad batches of them they must have been Jap imports,in some cases they lasted a couple of days

i use the rectus 26s and have done for years,i also constantly disconnect the pole hose between jobs to keep my heater running.....they usually last 5 or 6 months before i change them...the key is to spray them with WD40 every so often...it makes them last a lot longer...

ALSO THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT........dont forget to change the male 26 fitting at the same time....
price higher/work harder!

not sure what you mean, i have a rectus on the microbore and connect it to my pole hose.

I use a 25 foot pole and it reaches almost everything on my round so i hardly ever need to uncouple it from the reel i just wind the pole hose onto the reel.

why do you need to disconnect so often ? do you swap poles frequently

You can do this and reel the pole hose on to the reel as well but I don’t like doing this,it means you have to reel off the pole hose first before you can grab the first bit of the microbore.
Also if you don’t have a valve somewhere on your pole or brush when you put it away it’ll empty the water that’s in the pole hose into the back of the van all the time you pack away.

Hi it's disconnected because when you finish you need to go back to your pump turn the pump off during that time or the water is running. Unless you have a valve somewhere are near the pole end?

Ok

I use a univalve, i just assumed everyone did these days...

What do you use then a tap or nothing?

I clean the windows go back to the van, turn the pump off and reel the hose in.

I don't see the point in disconnecting, just wasting time.

I don't see the issue with pulling the pole hose off first?

I've seen people disconnect it, then coil the pole hose up in a nice tidy loop then hang it up. Then connect it all again 2 mind later for the next job, just seems an unnescary step.

But yes you would need a univalve or a tap.

I never disconnect, I use slx 25 on everything.

1x brass reducer with 2 x o clips for hose reel to pole hose . I put gorilla tape around this connection so it doesn’t catch on corners .

1 x straight push fit connector for IF I need to take the pole off

1 x univalve

Total cost including univalve around £40. So far no connections have been changed since July .
After each job, reel all hose onto hose reel and hand pole up. No need to disconnect

Ok thank you you looks like I've been stupid for many years. I need to get a few of these uni's..
So the Poles just stay connected all the time and you shut the water off with univalve.
Disconnecting doesn't just waste time it wastes water and it damages the connections every time.
Perhaps I have found the missing link going to get this now for all the reels.
I use the 2 balls to prevent it from rubbing on the floor

Yep , connected all the time
- I was doing the same for years until I thought to myself, what a waste of time this is connecting all the time. I got rid of the balls too

Not ole' Nigel, he's spent sooo much money running hot water that he can't afford £35 on a univalve - thats just soooo pikey, I mean really - using a univalve cleans the glass so much better than without one.....  ;D

I used to have this problem. The rectus fitting would last a few weeks/months before getting difficult to connect/disconnect. Did the tubeless thing 2 years ago and the same fitting still works perfectly as it's protected inside the pole. A lot of people say the exceed kit is good, haven't tried it as I did a DIY version that works well but was a bit of faff. Theres one on eBay too:

I think that's the way to go to preserve the fitting though.
