I would walk away from a job like that it wouldn’t be worth anyone’s while down this part of the world,I only got half way round quoting a school when we stopped and I said to the caretaker I’m over 2 grand already.
He said they are cleaning it for 1200 I work it out at around 3k or it wouldn’t have been worth 3 of us cleaning it over the time it would have took, jobs like this I will have to at least double my domestic stuff money wise or it’s not worth it.

We quoted for a large academy school about 3 months ago. I walked the job myself and quoted £1500 which would have taken two of us approx. 4-5 days to complete working almost flat out for 8 hours every day.
Never heard from them!
You should be glad you didn’t hear back from them, going by your calculations you priced it at around £20 an hour per person!

I’ve put in my quote for the buildings in question.  The yearly price for contract is almost six figures.  It would more than double our current size of business.

I’ve priced the jobs high so if i do get them we will be making minimum £500 per day.

I don’t actually want the job as i now realise its too much stress for me.  However should i get the job atleast i would be making really good money.

Fingers crossed i dont get it lol

With respect on commercial work like that two guys at £500 per day is not good money that’s only £250 each , you should be able to do the best part of that per day on domestic which is far easier and using cheaper smaller poles we are double that price for that type of work , and yes we di pick up quite a bit at that price .

I agree with the above my thoughts exactly you’ve got to be doing twice what you would do normally or what’s the point in putting off other regular stuff

Almost six figures ....  £999.99?

Or do you mean £99,999 for 2 external cleans   per year?

I did say minimum £500 per day.  As in the absolute lowest should the job turn into some sort of disaster or factoring in things going wrong.  I've actually priced the work at £250 per day per man then x 3.  So in essence its more like £750 per day per man.  Lets just call it £1,000 for a 2 man team.  So if i got £500 per man i'd be happy, but if we end up getting more than that then happy days.

The job is priced at between £40,000-£50,000 per clean so you do the maths if it's done twice a year.  It's made up of about 50 different buildings roughly.  Some as small as £100 per building, some as large as £10,000.

Good luck quoting £750 per man/day on this type of work, you’ve no chance.

You’ll be quoting against the Mitie/NSS type firms and they’ll be a fraction of that price, with the relevant paperwork and credentials to back their quote up.

So have I got this right there are 2,000 windows and the maximum price for  each clean is 50,000 ?... if my maths is right that’s £25 for each window ?.. cannot see any health authority paying that , something doesn’t seam right ?...

I've just had a phone call off the secretary of the said school to ask us if we can do the job in January due to another company wasting their time! They are happy to pay our original quote as this was only £150 more than the quote they went with.
We are starting the job on January 2nd!

Nooooo you’ve both got it wrong.  I didn’t want to give away too much information just incase somebody else on here had been asked to quote the job.

The main building in question has about 2000 windows with sub buildings surrounding it of another 2000 windows.  Atleast 1000 of the windows are courtyard windows which would be a pain in the arse.

This is just the biggest building i have been asked to quote.  Ive been asked to quote another 20 or so buildings.  The job total is £50,000 for the lot, the whole shabang!

At this point i genuinely hope we dont get the job as everybodies negativity and sarcasm has put me off!  Can see why Lee Pryor has a good moan at you lot every now and then.

Only came on here to post for advice (some helpful might i add) but most of you just offer negative non helpful input.  We are smashing the domestic work so i dont need this job if nothing else it was just a bit of fun doing the quotes on some big commercial for a change.

Well back to it.  Its chucking it down and these houses wont clean themselves!!!!

Want some advice?

Go for it. My best jobs all come with a huge element of personal satisfaction and achievement when completing those that present challenges.

Ignore the negative ones. You know who they’re going to be, it’s a shame but give them a swerve.

Im currently waiting on the go ahead on 2 jobs for the same client with a total value of 10K a year. Can’t wait.

This was a 9K job that was so much fun to do.

Well done on getting the gig, hopefully you will smash through the work a lot quicker than you initially thought, that way you could make a decent profit.

What advice did you expect to receive when you only gave half of the information?

Also your figures don’t make much sense unless I’m missing something.

You currently do £250-£350 per day for a 2 man van, yet you aim for £40 per hour.

£40 ph x 2 men £80 per hour.  Do your guys only work 4 hour days? Or do you really aim for £40 per van hour which would be £20 per man hour?

If it’s the latter I’d forget about commercial work and concentrate on considerably increasing your domestic prices. Taking on commercial work at those prices with the intention to sub most of it out could potentially ruin you.

Ok, just to be clear we do 1 man 1 van £250 a day minimum.  Our second van does 2 men £350 a day, but thats with me in it and my health isn't the best so i have to take my time.  Hoping to one day be off the tools.
