How could I clean this any better?
« on: November 29, 2019, 09:03:19 pm »
Good evening guys, I recently cleaned some steps and pathways around a 100+ year old farmhouse and although the customer was very satisfied with the results I feel the clean could of been better. My job was just to make them safe and clean not looking like new just to be clear.

I made a quick video of some of the step cleaning and someone on social media pointed out that I missed a bit at the top. they was refering to the flag being cleaned at about the 46 second mark. The customer requested that I don't use any chemicals and I'm not sure if those are age old stains or something else. But my question is could you have made that flag like new without chemicals or like new with chemicals. I'm still learning but would love to know if any of you could have got them cleaner without chemicals or if they would of removed those stains by using them?

looks good enough to me - your firstly doing the job to the specification and budget of your customer

your technique is a little slow - might be worth time lapsing the video to speed it up - around 20 seconds is more than long enough

as for the stain - without a close up you can't really determine whether chemicals will help or not - is the stain a natural part of the stone or an oil that's been spilt...

Its York stone.... it's entitled to have a few marks in it. Don't worry its good enough. Some things should never be made to look brand new.

You would have probably improved it using  Honing Powder afterwards but Hey-Ho,  they asked you to do a job without chemicals and make it more slip resistant.  You achieved their goal  ;D ;D. What Could have been or May Have been is not in the Equation really is it?
That said, If you had let  "Henry Splash it All Over Hypo Cooper AKA Mike Halliday on it he would have done it better though" ;D ;D ;D

Good Job IMO

Hypo would have improved it but likes been said they didn’t want any ‘ chemical’ .....did they give a reason? I’ve never had a Customer stipulate ‘no chemicals to be used’

The only option left is to remove the top surface of the stone depending how deep the lichen spots go
