500 at a push if you are not too fat and carry the bare minimum equipment.

Van would probably be better with. 350/400 though.

350-400 tops.

Not a chance I’d risk a 500 tank with a 700 payload. By the time you’ve added fuel, weight of tank, ladders, reels, yourself you’re well over weight. Forget about ever carrying a passenger.

I'd go to 400 for single operator use.
It's a game of three halves!

You need about 400kg of payload spare after your water to be safe.

1 litre = 1kg.

It’s surprising how much weight we need to carry even with the bare minimum.

I’ve said before I would ignore the payload to a certain degree, once a van has so much weight in it or is anywhere near its max load although it maybe legal to drive it becomes dangerous.
This time of the year in wet or slippery conditions with half worn tyres,be seeing yoooouu

also don't for get  the  fuel weight  .plus tools ,and you ,it all adds up  so make sure you have a pay  load that is suitable  d o t are very unforgiving. has are the coppers. best to avoid fines and points insurance failing to pay out god forbid the worst happens.

I would go for a van that can carry well over it’s capacity I had a LWB connect with 500ltrs,could it carry it yes was it safe when full I would say no.
I would also add that in any small van I would go for a flat tank, used to see a bloke with a 1000 litre IBC in his connect lol orange ratchet straps.

the newer connect vans (L2 240s)handle much better with a full 500L tank(936kg payload)...i know because ive had both(i used to have a T230)
price higher/work harder!

I still don’t agree Daz a medium size van handles weight much much better its distribution of weight is noticed as soon as you get in it.
Like I say payload is a guide I would rather make a decision on the way the vehicle handles and copes with the weight not what a printed sticker says just inside the drivers door, same thing with tyres you can pay £80 a tyre for a van and they are terrible. Tyres make a massive difference to a van when carrying weight especially water even if baffled properly.

What kind of tank do you use NWH?

I would think there is a big difference over using a properly baffled to to using a Wydale tank - which allows the water to slosh around excessively.

I would guess a van would handle much better with a 500l Grippa tank than a 500l Wydale.

NWH, those tanks look good. How do you fix it in the van?

The majority of the tanks especially or mostly the flat tanks can be made for the particular van you have,if you have say a transporter he can make you a flat tank that will sit between the wheel arches of the van, therefore no bolting down needed as the arches act as the restraints.

I have mine in an older style frame and it’s like the ones on the site completely honeycombed baffling, the same technology he uses is used in fire engines.
Call and speak to him you will be amazed at what he tells you about what  other well known manufacturers are using and have been for years.

My tank is custom made (the company that fitted the system for me is no longer trading).

I have had my van and system 14 years now so will probably change it eventually (or retire).

I am tempted by a grippa system, but also like the look of the plastic water tank company that you use NWH.

I am puzzled as to why so many use wydale tanks.

They use Wydale tanks because they are cheap as chips, they are just storage tanks not supposed to be used to carry liquid in.
That one I told you about his name is Neil he will not put a tank in you’re van that is to big for it,he can supply everything you’ll need for window cleaning, you could have a flat tank with pump the lot all built into it if you put a sheet of ply over the top you wouldn’t even know you had anything in the van.
I wouldn’t go for an upright next time I don’t think unless it compromises having a heater fitted,if you have a tank frame of sorts it makes it easier to bolt the heater to it 1 or 2 man heater that is
The single user heater is very heavy although in pictures it may not look it,it’s very heavy.
Not cheap those tanks he makes but like most things you pay more for they are better mines 7-8 years old never leaked at all I had the tanks you mentioned and they leaked like a roof with no tiles,if he makes you one get him to cut a 6” hole where you want the lid because the lid did go on me from sticking the transfer hose in it for years so it popped off.
The lids Grippa sell are the best lids you’ll get.
