Dabble in other businesses?

Anyone else dabble with a second business    to your window cleaning?

I fix up and refurbish old retro computers as a sideline hobby.

I have done. When I started window cleaning I had resigned my directorship in a small office equipment company back in the 1990's. I had agreed not to work in the same field for 9 months and so did some window cleaning.

When the 9 months were up I started selling refurbished ink cartridges to some of my old customers. I did this for about three years but the window cleaning grew and paid better. Also I had to be Vat registered to keep my prime customer even though I was nowhere near the turnover limit. When that customer went elsewhere I knocked it on the head.

I also sold Health Insurance for a couple of years on a commission basis but again Window Cleaning grew and I knocked that on the head or rather they knocked me on the head as I spent the last two years picking up a commission for renewals of about 」100/」200 a month without putting in any new work.

Now I am in the position of renting out a couple of properties (sounds a bit grand but we were lucky enough to start off by inheriting my parents home and we were likeminded in having little pension provision and kept it) with my brother but I ring fence that as a retirement pot/income.
It's a game of three halves!

After having a van stolen over ten yrs back I made a lock that fits over the pedals.
After making it I had a few pals ask for one an then there mates wanted one so every rainy day I知 either making them or out selling them.
It痴 getting to the stage where I知 looking at doing it all the time and passing my round over to my sons as the weather is crap now nearly all the time.

Any link to a website or anywhere we can get a look at it? Sounds like a great product, good luck!

I offer a man and van service lugging small items of furniture etc  from A to B locally and rubbish tip runs.

I don't get many jobs from it as I don't push it very much but every little helps.

up to 1 year ago the wife and I had a weekend business buying and selling antiques, we also used to run antiques fairs twice a month

due to ill health and semi retirement we pack it in 1 year ago and now just sell the occasional things online

however antiques are still in my blood and sometimes at weekends I pop along to a fair and maybe buy an item or 2 as I'm a avid collector
