Wagtail High Flyer - what a load of crap!
« on: November 06, 2019, 09:35:07 pm »
Used mine half a dozen times, never could work out how it flipped into position. Today it wouldn’t stay put. Had a really good look at how it works. It’s just a plastic pip on the swivel.
The whole thing looks like it came out of a Christmas Cracker!

‘Flipping’rubbish!  :-[

For the money they charge it’s a joke!

It's what I like to call "reverse innovation", when you create a great initial product then proceed to make it worse and worse! Add to that product testers seemingly falsely convinced by the lure of freebies and some youtube z-list screen time!

The original wagtail flipper nailed it perfectly!

"Used mine half a dozen times"

There's your problem there, I've been using mine for over a year and its a very good tool.

Give it a good and thorough chance first.

I dogeared the ends and cut them to the same shape as the liquidator, it performs very well, I would say just as good as the liquidator but without some of the issues, you get from the liquidator.

With the LQ you have to soap up like crazy, when you're finished it looks like someone had a foam party on the bottom frames, loads of mopping up to do. The wagtail is happy without all the soap.

I love my wagtail.

I agree, it’s a good tool but poorly made. A good look at it shows how it’s produced with bits of bent aluminium, poorly thought out flip lock mechanism, just shockingly cheap techniques for ridiculous cost. I have a previous flipper with the velcro falling off, the pad not sticking etc. They are so badly made. No wonder theres countless vids of people improving theirs.
The original flipper was ok but the pressure on the glass when soaping up relied on about 3mm of blade pushing the pad, so in effect the rest of the pad never got used.
This one’s better but won’t flip and lock. Back to the shed.

I can't comment on any of the newer Wagtail incarnations but I think I remember buying my first wagtail back in 2010/11?
A great tool but I agree with Dave that the "engineering" is very crude. On the one i had the aluminium channel was locked in place with a screw and within no time at all it would need tightening up to stop the channel slipping.
Soon after you would notice the channel would start slipping again as the screw had dimpled the channel and had reached it's limit. There was still a little more mileage to be had by moving the channel to the left/right of centre before the same scenario would be repeated with the channel being dimpled etc.
A new channel would be purchased for an obscene price from WCW etc. and then the merrygoround would continue all over again.
As much as it was a great time i got fed up with that and haven't used it in years.
I only used to use it maybe several times a week and so i would of imagined that used for hours every day, week in and week out they wouldn't of lasted very long at all?
Shame that the "engineering" has not been improved much but then again maybe that's deliberate?......

I agree the original flipper was the best and imo still is the best squeegee for  90% of windows, the go to tool for any windows where you might need to twist your wrist a lot.
