Why do/did they need to be home?
Why don't you have a quick google before making stupid comments?

They have a locked gate which i could easily get over but they specifically requested that someone is home when i clean the windows.

It wasn't always like that, they did leave the gate unlocked in the past. After they had an extension built they wanted to be home every time for some reason. I tried to accommodate them as much as possible.

I agree with dazmond we would never have taken on a job like that in the first place , alarm bells would be ringing with me the muinit they said they need to be in ,and locked gates unless we get a key or code are a no no , sorry to be harsh but you need tk be more selective when quoting , we never get this situation as I have weeded out this type of person and stress when quoting we work all year , we work in light rain , if they hesitate I suggest they aren't a customer for us , this has stoped this situation happening , I think in the last 5 years it’s happens twise and both were instant dumps

So they're after someone who only cleans in summer, and only when they are in the house, and no doubt for a keen (rock bottom) price? They'll probably end up with the type of cleaner they wouldn't necessarily want around their house.
They've done you a favour by opening up a work slot you can fill with better customers.

Any new customers you get charge extra for the first clean maybe double the price then if they sack you off for any reason least you had a premium for the first clean besides the windows  are usually filthy so justify it that way when/if they question it

You are 100% right WW.

But when you are trying to build a round they can be very demoralizing, especially when they were the only customer you got after 3 hours of solid canvassing.

With a full schedule plus I couldn't be bothered with them now, but in those early desperation days it was a different story. The future was all unknown.

As soon as you get a ‘we would like to be in when you clean it’ request, it’s an instant bin.

These people are always messers, they’re always worried about you being round their house.

I used to clean the windows of an old couple with the guy I used to work for as lad. The old man we nicknamed ‘Hawk eye’ as he used to follow us round the windows from the inside, and watch us clean each pane of glass, inspecting it.

I think we only kept doing it because it was genuinely that weird and funny, it kind of gave us a laugh.

Some people are really very weird, they don’t realise how socially awkward and OTT they are!

And personally I try not to put 'afraid' or 'sorry' in my replies. Because I'm not afraid or sorry. I may be "sorry we couldn't help on this occasion", but not necessarily sorry we didn't take the job on for example. There is a difference. Or at least there is in my head.

For me, its more about being upfront.  So if its a new customer and they ask to be in, then i will try and accommodate that request. Its good to meet face to face for the first time, however I explain that I wont be able to meet this requirement going forward.  If they require it, then I will ask them to find somebody else and I wont do the first clean.

If a customer starts requesting thus after a period of time, I would have a discussion face to face to enquire why / whats changed etc and take it from there

You haven’t lost a job because you never had it on the terms you want,if you did then you don’t now.
Get you’re book so full these people don’t even register with you,9 out of 10 they come back and when they do they stay more loyal and of course they will have to pay you more for your service.
I did 1 today in fact she messed me about so much  she stopped me so I thought ok you’ve left messages you’ve now stopped me in the street let’s see how bad you want me to clean your windows, used to be 35 it’s now 50,she was more than happy. I would never go back to one of these for the same money she won’t cancel again I’m sure of it now if she did I’ve lost nothing.

From about now onwards until Xmas you get the neighbours who have seen you clean certain houses ask you to clean theirs too. I tell them if they let me have their name, tel number and address on a bit of paper I will try to squeeze them in if possible before xmas but owing to all the rain we've had lately it's put me behind with my regulars. Then I ask if I can't get around to them before Xmas do they still want their windows cleaned in the start of the New Year, it's one way of sorting out the once only xmas chancers.

If any from previous years ask me I politely tell them no chance as I never forget the xmas chancers  ;D

Yes she will find someone who does, probably wearing a Lonsdale tracksuit and frequency being whenever he needs a few tins from the off-licence.

had one this week.
its only around the corner . I just said that's ok, but I think moving foreward its best if you contact me for an as and when required service .  for this I charge xxxxx ( same as first clean ), and  I will call when im in your area.
no problem for me .
