Immersion heater. Where to fit it?
« on: October 30, 2019, 11:37:34 am »
Bit unsure where to drill the hole for my immersion heater. I’ve a 500ltr upright tank which has the baffle running down the centre. Where do I drill and fit to minimise the cold spots and circulate the hot water?

I would stick it near the outlet as this should help prevent that area freezing. You’ll also be need to be able to reach the back but to tighten it and possibly apply some sealant.

Mine is a 27 inch 2kw one and i put mine as far down as possible and it runs underneath the middle part/divide of the tank. Its installed at the outlet side as well.

Use a mechanical flange and lower down on some string and stick your fingers through the hole to catch it and then secure. You then screw your immersion into that.

Notice how short his element is.

On my 650L "flat" tank which is mounted across the van with the shorter sides against the doors - looking at the tank from the back or long side with the outlet on your left - I put it low down on the outlet side in between the baffles directly below the filler hole.

It is a 27" 2KW element.
It's a game of three halves!

Thanks guys for the help. Think I may buy an aquarium pump to mix it all up. That way, no cold spots. As for where I fit the immersion, still not sure about that apart from it has to go as low as possible

Fit it where it’s easiest for you.
