Fuel Cards

due to expansion i'm looking into fuel cards, any recommendations?

Do not use ALLSTAR , I had one a while ago and they offered a discount for certain supermarkets. All of a sudden they stopped the discount and started charging me more than the forecourt. Took a couple of months to realise as they only send you a bill once a month

Get two. You'll get an email off them on Friday telling you what the prices are next week, go with the cheapest. When they see you have stopped using their card, they drop the price.

Make sure you specify, and get in writing, that you will not pay any kind of annual fee.

Company credit card with good cash back offers. Always pay the account off in full so no interest charges.

Suppose it depends if you can trust your employees or not. If you don’t trust them enough to get a receipt when fuelling up then yes a fuel card would be best.

Also, just to add. An ex employee of mine had a dedicated fuel card some years ago. I found out he was able to do a deal with someone at the local petrol station, they were giving him cigs and putting it through as diesel, I’m talking 120 cigs a week too. Fuel cards are not problem free.

Some great points made there guys!

I did consider an account at our local fuel station, However, I don't think it would be practical as we won't always be passing

Im thinking, a fuel card direct with a supplier ie Texaco would be a better option

Switched mine from Fuel card services to Onroute this week. Both were cheaper than the cheapest round here (Tesco). I'm paying 2.8ppl less.

So on motorways where they charge £1.50+ per litre, as Oooog mentioned, do you still get fuel at the same fixed price?

Yup. Some of the supermarkets add a surcharge, normally 1p but I had a card previously that Tesco added 20p. It's detailed on the Friday email though.

When I started using fuel cards I told my mum about the old switcheroo, she checked how much her work (oil company) were being charged and it was 50p more than the pump! They'd just signed up to one card and never thought about it or looked at it.

The fuel card companies are all bandits. You need to check every invoice and get all agreements in writing.

Its easy you just limit the Credit Card with a maximum spend amount each month.  How much fuel does a WW Van use in a month?
