Commercial van insurance - did you know?
« on: September 20, 2019, 06:04:26 pm »
You have no cover on any other vehicle because it’s a commercial van?
So you can’t drive another car and use the policy for cover of any kind.

A new one on me.

and ............ because I have two vehicles in my name when renewing they wanted to know how much no claims I had on the other vehicle as it can’t be used on two policies apparently. Also got charged extra because someone hit the van and I claimed off them.
Worlds gone mad 😠

I think with your car policy you can drive someone else's car with their permission and have some cover with your policy?

Not anymore.

They changed that a while ago.  You’ve got to “ok” it with your company first.

Any way to get more money out of us.

It’s also ridiculous how your no claims bonus isn’t based on you as a driver. It’s per vehicle. So...... 10 years no claims on the van, but on the car policy they will say “oh no, you’ve got to start a fresh, your car is at 0 years”. .......but......... if you have an accident in the car, you’ve still Got to declare it on the vans insurance and it effects the vans policy.

Madness.

My insurance is due up whilst I'm in my Thomas Cook holiday! And after someone ran into the van last November I'll soon find out how pish the protected no claims is!

My car policy covers me to drive any other vehicle provided I have there permission, car, van , my van insurance is the same and it says it in the small print but you have to tell them that you will be using that provision , seams strange that you have to tell them when it says that you are covered

30 years ago my car policy (TPF&T) covered me for "Any Vehicle" not belonging to me.
Then it was "Any Car or Motorcycle" and finally "Any Car".
Now it's very much company-specific.

Most Commerical Policies only cover you for your own commercial vehicle and not anyone else's.
Some companies will mirror no claims discount between policies - it's just down to their individual preference.

When my truck was off the road a friend, who has a substantial trader's policy, offered to lend me his Transit pickup.
The trader's policy would cover me to drive it but not for window cleaning as it was only covered in connection with the motor trade. I tried to insure it separately for a week but couldn't as it was already insured on another policy.
Happy days.
