how to replace ionic water filters
« on: September 14, 2019, 05:10:34 pm »

Has anyone a solution for opening one of these filters, the are stuck tight with space shuttle technology, can i buy these inline water filter spares anywhere
obviously no point asking the makers they deliberately stuck them tight

If they’re the 4” cylindrical ones for resin you mean, then my cousin cut one a few inches from the end & re-sealed with a rubber flexi soil pipe connector.

If it’s the older type they are disposable and not designed to be opened

Brodex use to sell them with a screw cap end with a rubber seal. Same dimensions as near as.

The ionic filters (clear pipe with resin inside and a hozelock style male fitting at each end) are not designed to be refilled. They are disposable.

They come in 12inch and 30inch variants, and (the 12 inch especially) are extremely useful to keep in the van.

I keep 2 ready at all times, with all the necessary hoses for situations where there is access to water (from a tap) but not access for hoses. Such as courtyards etc, or increasingly- no parking nearby.

You can then park-up wherever (far away) and just go to the job with a filter and pole.

For use in systems themselves (rather than on-the-fly) they trade cost for speed and convenience. They are fast and easy to replace, but they (obviously) cost more than refilling a refillable vessel.

There was a time when I wondered who would ever pay extra to save the time and hassle of refilling a vessel, but as I’ve gotten busier, I have bought a few 30-inch vessels as my time has gotten more valuable.

So, to put it simply. If you have time to spare, get a refillable vessel. If you don’t, get a disposable one.

i cut them and have the important divider and sponges, to keep the crystals inside the pipe, unfortunately so far the only options i see are to use some type of collar maybe air vent, downpipe or sewer pipe, nothing looks classy! maybe even a toilet pipe.
i was hoping to replace the cylinders make them bigger too and will keep trying once plumbers are open tomorrow , without using say a lathe you have no chance of removing the plastic from the glue so having looked so hard now im kinda keen to make my own cylinders as i like things that open and have screw threads i can fit snug, considering how much ive spent so far its been fun and very worthwhile
