my default setting is 930am-3pm and 30 mins for lunch so 5 hours "on the glass" per day 4 or 5 days a week all year round....obviously it can be slightly earlier/later start and finish times but this is the norm for me.....its only occasionally ill work a slightly longer day

but what about you guys that start early(eg 6am)do you wear a head torch so you can see what your cleaning off the glass in the winter months?or do you start later and work extra hours by working weekends?

ive found out over the years that working short days are best for me in relation to productivity and efficient working (and stops me getting too bored of cleaning)and i can work the same hours all year round without the short winter days hampering me.

i used to start at 730am and work til 6pm in a previous outdoor job,sometimes we d work late til 830pm-9pm in the winter months...now that was a drag!long,long days and it put me off working for someone else big time!

the studies some people have done on work productivity around europe have found that lots of people can be just as productive working shorter hours than someone working longer hours doing the same work....

obviously it helps having lots of work in the same areas too

To be honest I am more surprised when someone is full time 40 hours, 5 days a week on the glass than if they are "part time"

I generally work 8:30 till 2:30 Monday to Thursday.

I don't consider myself part time though, I spend at least an hour a day on other tasks including a couple of hours on a weekend sorting van, reminding customers, scheduling and book keeping etc.

I may be part time technically cleaning windows but I certainly feel like I put more work in than I ever did 9-5 in previous jobs,
used to spend most of the day day dreaming and once 5 rolls down you clock out both physically and mentally.

I don't think whether it's summer or winter matters it's still a slog trying to long hours as you are either cold, wet or red hot.

In the past, i hated the winter. This was mostly because I would always fall behind, due to the night creeping in early.  Then in the summer time i used to work until 6pm or later.
After several years of doing this, i then sat down and sorted my work out and tried to orgainse it, compared to just working each day to get through as much as i could until it was all completed.
This is when i broke my round into sections and i gave myself a week per section and so all my work was then on schedule for staying in a 4 week rotation.  I also made it an aim to finish before 4 pm in the summer and therefore by winter I would be completing my work as it got dark and therefore no more running late etc on my work.  As i knew how long it would take to complete each weekly round either working fast or taking my time, i could use my days off on friday as an overflow day incase i didnt finish the work in winter months and allowed for a later start in the mornings as well.
This has stood the test of time for me and especially since being on wfp now, its even easier.

That’s not really a full found round then mate.......my workdays are about 8:30am to 5 on average.

I have my months work in a list, takes about 21 full days to clean it.

The first of the month rolls around, I start at the top and work my way down. Some days I might want an early finish, I just pause the work, and pick up the next day.

I’ve never understood the need to crunch the work into set times and days.

Some months I get it all done, but if I don’t, it’s no big deal. The customers don’t even notice a week or so difference.

Normally i would finish by thursday and enjoy a day off on friday. However, this gives me the choice to work at a slower steadier pace either in the summer or winter, to work on the friday if needs be! Rather than over spill onto the following weeks scheduled work.

Perhaps more so that im taking on more high priced work rather than high quantities of jobs instead.

are you having to work 830am-5pm jonny because your work is scattered here,there and everywhere?i have over 300 jobs in one 2 mile area......so not much driving about so i can crack on and get home.....

ive never worked 830am-5pm for years!.... .......it was a common occurrence when 100% trad though......

i dont know whether its my age(47) or the fact ive been window cleaning for 26 years(probably a bit of both!) but id hate to work them hours personally these days....
