Why have gardiner changed jets?
« on: September 01, 2019, 08:45:55 pm »
I’ve not tried these yet but for me personally I have 3mm pencils fitted along with 50’ fan jets next and when I want to change for facia’s, gutters or con roofs etc I used to just pull the quick release fitting off the top of the pole hose and plug it straight on the other t piece.
It looks like with these new fittings you need to twist the old ones out and put a different set in that you’d have to have handy or stored in the van then go again, not massively time consuming but seems to me not as efficient?
Is there any plus sides to these over the old jets, the only thing I could see is you wouldn’t snap the plastic fan jets if you caught them but I’ve only ever done that once in a blue moon?

Drastically reduced assembly time when compared to pressing old style jets into the brush head and fitting the connector hose.

These jets are more expensive to manufacture so will add to product costs which will be passed onto us the users. Those cheap push in jets (hose joiners) cost us £2.95 + VAT a set where the new style cost us £6.95 + VAT. So from a spare part perspective the enduser pays. There is another point to consider. The reduced assembly cost (labour) due to much quicker brush assembly time will reverse that so it would appear that new brush prices shouldn't change much.

Now the next question is; do we really new to keep replacement jets in stock at home. I have a collection and have never used them.
If you swap around pencils to fans with the same brush, I would be tempted to carry 2 brushes, one with fans and the other with pencils. Yes, the initial investment will be a little more as you are buying an extra brush upfront, but then theoretically you will only replace those brushes much further into the future.  (If you replace a brush every 6 months then you will buy 2 every 12 months - same annual brush costs.)

But if you want to have a set of fan jets and another set of pencils in the same brush then I'm sure you can order a brush with fans and expect (not 100% sure as I haven't seen a brush with these new capsule jets) you could drill 2 holes next to the capsule jets and push a set of old style brass pencil jets in next to them.

Personally I would be reluctant to buy 2 brushes just  to have different jet options, because Alex so frequently brings out new brushes, and there are so many brushes to choose from, that I already have far too many brushes.

Cheers to be honest I’m not fussed about manufacturing costs I was happy with what was about before these I’m more interested in not being able to have 2 sets of jets fitted to one brush really, seems like a step back and having to change brushes would mean going back to the van if I wanted to change them out and like you say carrying another brush, I carry enough as it is at the moment without having to carry two of each brush just to change jets😂
I’ve stopped cleaning gutters facias addon jobs etc these days do its not a massive issue but just find it strange changing something that wasn’t really an issue, I’d be working on improving clamps wearing poles with black hands etc instead when you’ve now got phantom clamps with the softer less wearing pole inserts doing a better job?

I have a few brushes on the van that I swap depending on the house I'm cleaning.

I make the decision before I start the job which brush to use.

For example brush 1 has a swivel and overhead rinse bar. That was the brush of choice with two house cleans next to each other on Saturday due to height and angles. I have a 2nd brush with Dupont bristles and pencil jets and a 3rd sill brush.

We do have another pole on the van which has a fitted flocked brush with fan and pencil jets which we use for several customers who have old style lead windows.  Its mainly setup with the fan jets operating.

If we are doing a house that has predominately hydrophobic glass then I would go for the fan jets although the rinse bar is a pretty good alternative.

I've also got 'hundreds' of other brushes lying around that I must focus on wearing out before trying out any new brushes from Gardiners. I might be tempted to try the new Extreme brushes at some point though.  ;D

I’m still addicted to supremes pal the only brush I haven’t tried is that ultimate, quote fancy giving it a go considering its there abouts same as supreme weight but I’m not sure about the sticking out head stock, that’s why I love the supremes with they’re small curved heads!

This is part of an email I sent out to my
Franchisees.

Flushing out is easier if dirt gets in the jet or hose.

Frozen jets can be swapped over quickly.

Less chance of frozen jets as they’re made from plastic.

Broken jets can be replaced very easily including jet hose if that becomes damaged.

Reduce plastic and carbon footprint (maybe)

i use pencil jets for most work,i do have a couple of brushes with fan jets and ill use them on f/s/g jobs,in fact ive got one booked in on thursday so ill be using the fan jets...i think they use less water and better coverage for plastics but i dont have both pencil/fan jets in the same brush.....

i dont have any gardiner brushes with the new jet capsules but i can see them being handy if you do want to swap out the jets or clear a blockage....seems a good idea.....time will tell....
price higher/work harder!

I bought a brush about a month ago with these new jets and one is leaking already, I dont like them at all.

They should not leak, so there must be something wrong - please contact our Customer Service Team who will be happy to help sort this for you.

The only reasons it may leak are as follows:
1. The jet hose is not fully pushed into the John Guest fitting - try pushing the jet hose in further, it usually needs a double push to fully engage
2. The jet hose has been damaged and is not sealing correctly - try using a different piece of jet hose
3. The unit has developed a fault and needs replacing

If you get in contact with the Customer Service Team they will be able to help you find out which reason it is and if it is the 3rd one we can send you a replacement.

One caution - If using these jets with a pole equipped with a pull on/off internal flow valve - you will need to have a hose clip fitted above the gooseneck to prevent the gooseneck hose being pulled back into the pole which would tug on these jets and could lead to damage of the jet with long term use.

Interesting reading all of the comments  :)

For the majority of our clients they will just be used in exactly the same way as our jets always have been and with no need of any of the benefits. A jet is a jet and it will perform much the same as the old ones.

The benefits for users as we see them:
1. Jets can be swapped over quickly - clients have already commented on how useful this is and has allowed them to try out jets they have not used before.
2. Uses John Guest connections which are easier to fit then the barbs on the fanjets - this allows for easy dismantling in case of jet blockages etc.
3. Fanjets are more robust due to the lack of extending barb shaft on the back of the brush
4. Fanjet versions are now flush to the brush on the bristle side, thereby reducing the possibility of catching on window bars

As mufcglen mentioned though you cannot have two jets next to each other as with the older style. However it does only take seconds to switch out the new style jets or as Spruce has said you can drill a 4.8mm hole in the brush stock and fit a pair of the original pencil jets if this is still needed.

What are the plans for the new style jet being available on the brushes ?

We love the new ones - no more broken barbs 👍

All of our brushes will be switching over during the rest of year  :)

The only one that will not is the Micro Brush.

Thanks for replying to my post Alex can totally see all the points you mentioned and I agree they’ll be better than the old type of jets, the only downside for me would be taking a tad longer to swap them if you had twin jets fitted but for me personally now I don’t really clean gutters facias etc anymore so it’s not a massive issue!

Can you buy the new jets in the extreme brush?
