well to start with I really don't see the point in having the merlin in the back of the van - if you have enough room to set up a 1000ltr IBC tank at home do that and you'll always have a store of water, I would keep the di vessel in the van though and feed the water through it - if you do run out while working then you can still filter a little tap water di only.  what size tank and what type of van is it?

I have a 400ltr tank in the back of an escort van.I am tonight trying to fill it up but am now crapping myself seeing how much waste water there is compared to water going in my tank . How many times a week will I have to fill it up again? Reckon I will have to take out another mortgage to pay for water bill

Dont like to mention this but what is the payload of your Escort van?

A 400ltr tank plus the water to fill it is going to be around 450 Kilos. Then you have the rest of your kit.. fuel.. people on board to consider.  Probably somewhere around 600 to 700 kilos total.  This would be well overweight for most Escort vans.

No mate not at all a big mistake.

1:  Your water bill wont be anywhere near as bad as you think.

2: The tank size.. I am only pointing out that a 400 ltr in most Escorts is too large if filled completely. You DO NOT want to be done for being overweight.

3: Nothing is irresolvable. I and others may be able to help.  If you look at my website there is a telephone number there for my office. I am not in there tomorrow but you are welcome to call me from Weds onwards.  If I can help I will. Hopefully it wont cost you anything.

Thankyou very much indeed> I only got all this kit because I have done my knees in after 10 years up and down the ladder.Just couldnt face giving up cleaning windows. Probably just worried because this system is completely alien to me.

Yes I understand.

It can be a bit of a shock to the system at first but my advice is to take a few deep breaths and calm down. I am sure it can be sorted out. The only thing you seem to have got a bit mixed up with is the tank size. For the time being only fill it to just above half way. That way you will be OK weight wise.  Maybe others can help but as I said feel free to give me a call on Weds.

Cheers

If you have an escort 55 payload is 550KG so really only a 250ltr water tank to keep within the weight of the van.

If you have an escort 75 the payload is 750kg so you would be able to have a 400ltr tank in that, not sure i would want to though.

driver - 80kgs
fuel - 50kgs
tank - 30kgs
water - 400kgs
battery and other fittings - 30kgs

Total 590kgs

This is allowing for a full tank of water and carrying all your extras, if you feel you will be carrying more than that and or more than your vans payload then either change van or reduce the amount of water you will carry.

I've done plenty of 600kg payload vans with 400ltr systems and there's no problem driving with a full load, its still quite safe, plus if you opt for the 400ltr baffled tank then remember its not actually a 400ltr tank anymore as the baffles take up some of the volume (about 50ltrs) so you're only carrying 350ltrs and thats if you fill it to the throat.  I only noticed this a few days ago when filling a 400ltr baffled tank with 25ltr drums, it only took 18 of them and was overflowing.
