I usually purchase my vehicle tax online.

However, I think I'm correct in saying, if you tax your van today you will have to pay for the whole of the month of May. if you wait until 1st June you save yourself a bit of money ....

Set it up online by monthly direct debit, then you have no worries.

Haha, can you imagine if dvla treat its customers like some window cleaners treat theirs 😂😂

That’s correct, always get a free month every time tax due.  😂👍👌🚙

Not so sure you can do that now. If the vehicle is not taxed then it needs to be SORN , one or the other. If its not SORN and not taxed you'll probably get a fine for no tax.

Not anymore you don't the longer you leave it the bigger fine you risk!

You are not allowed to pay it until you speak to their late payments department. If I were you I would be very nice to them because depending on what you say as your reason depends on the size of the fine they give you or they may take you to court.  A lot depends whether you have been late before.  I was 49 Days overdue because all the reminders were sent to my old address as that’s where the van was registered.  The idiots at my old address decided to bin my mail instead of ringing me.  I explained this to them and after 10 minutes on hold I got an instant decision of a £50 fine and then I had to pay 14 months tax to renew.  Not a bad result really because they  can impose a fine of up to £1000.    Ring them and be very apologetic is my advice!
