i agree dave........most of my new work comes from walk ups,word of mouth and recommendations,best type of jobs to add to my round usually.a steady trickle throughout the year......i even get customers from other WCs who pass my number on occasionally too because their too busy or the job isnt in their area....

Don't you guys get bored of the same work? I've been at this for years and I've had the same rounds for years.  Therefore I've been expanding into new areas and soon be selling of an old round to make way for the new.
Also don't you guys take on any new work which is more beneficial than some old work, as in still replace the dross.   Not that it's bad work or low priced, it just freshens up the rounds. In addition I don't work five days a week every week of the month like on the other threads, that would be extremely tiring and boring.  I leave a week free for the add on jobs like soft washing or pressure washing.

Doesn't mean it's always actively looking for work either. Walk ups or recommendations, it makes no difference to how I get a new customer, but each new customer will get a welcome pack regardless.

Well I guess a welcome pack is good for marketing add on jobs and gives you a professional look. 

Same reasons why we have logo printed uniforms or a sign written van.   Even those who have a full round uses the above too.

Honest opinion:

No one cares. All they want is for you to clean their windows, this is a trivial matter to most people.

The last thing they want is a welcome pack that’ll go straight in the bin.

All they need it your email/phone/website info.

Think about it, if you weren’t a window cleaner, but had a window cleaner yourself, would you care about a welcome pack? 90% of people would say no.

Customers don’t care how the method works, what pure water does, how’s it all done etc etc. They just want clean windows.

There are some window cleaners who love to over complicate everything. In doing this, they just create a cringing mess.

It’s basically a waste of time and paper 📝

As for add ons - just tell them your services, or have the add ons written on your ‘windows cleaned today’ leaflets.

Some add ons I don't really actively seek, but I do enjoy pressure washing, it's quite therapeutic I find. Not only this, but you get a wadd of money as soon as the job is done. No collecting, no processing payments, just simply paid for a job well done.
Same for render cleaning,   it's a break from the norm and a break is as good as a rest

The big difference Dave is you just get on and do the job, hence no need to keep inventing gimmicks or excuses - these are just distractions from actually getting out there and getting a full round sorted - different if your genuinely expanding and taking on staff etc..  but a 'welcome pack' sounds like your embarking on a 5 day course for personal enlightenment - KISS - your window cleaning or exterior cleaning end of

You keep plodding on doing the same old same old. I like to freshen things up, a spring clean so to speak.
Besides, I might be doing this on a bigger scale if we take the bigger plunge and move from the area altogether.

Plodding on lol.  I employ someone full time & I'm also full time.

We don't have dross on our books. Yes I have favourite jobs & ones I'm not so keen on due to hose runs etc but anything that I really didn't like got dumped long ago. Have never felt like dumping whole areas though. Everything is priced accordingly. If I think a new job is gonna be a right pita (mid terrace, 1st floor flat etc etc) I just tell them from the off that it's not something we'd be looking to take on.

Oh and no, I've never felt the need for welcome packs, Just a business card & maybe a method statement for residential.

After 16yrs (officially as sole trader) its time for a change of area. Yes the pitaj obs got weeded out along time ago. I just fancy a change of area.
Obviously anyone who's been doing this for some time, simply won't take on pita work to begin with and that's true even if your building a new round up in a different area.

So for instance, the small round I'm building to replace, consists of three days work and nicely compact and a good little earner. However so far, I'm two days of work in a new area for slightly more income. So by time ived gained another full days work in this area, I can sell the other and make a return on that, as well as earning more in a new area, which also freshens up the complete round and renews my interest.
It's a win win, even If I loose some of the work.

Not at all, it bought a nice sum in. But this new work fetches more.  I don't need to, but I will.  Yes I've made two days of work up, but these are much bigger houses in an even more affluent area with a pleasant drive to get there.  Is it a full day's work though?  What is a full day's work for someone? Is it 8- 5  //  9- 5 //  9-3  or something else altogether?  So no one can presume to know all or any details other than whats given out.   But some may think it's crazy to change their work up and pointless if it's a good earner and well trained customers etc etc.  We'll that's fine for them and all who want to do so.
That's not for me!  You can always do better than what you are doing at any given moment of time  and  I'm reaping the benefits of doing so.   Others choose to employ or franchise, but that isn't my cup of tea.

So for me, my welcome packs have been beneficial.
