WFP Hot Water
« on: May 19, 2019, 06:02:13 pm »
So as a newbie who is yet to start trading but taking time to look into the business as much as possible from vans and van setups canvassing and pricing.

Not one to worry about working in all kinds of weather as I am an outdoors person I was wondering what the general consensus was on hot water WFP advantages over cold if any and also best hot water system to add to van setup.

I’ve messed about for years with immersions, lpg tanks etc.

Last September I upgraded to a Grippatank Hydro heat.

I would never be without it now. I use all day every day, and im really seeing the advantages now. Glass and frames are definitely cleaner than when I was using cold.  It’s taken about 6 months to see this, but I think 4- 6 cleans with hot water and you really see the windows getting cleaner, especially the pvc.

Do you need it?

No.

If you’ve got a spare few thousand then I’d say do it.

I worked for years with cold, but the last few months I’ve had my best months of business by a long shot and I attribute that partly to the hot water.

To be honest though, I wouldn’t get one right away. Concentrate on getting your round built up first.

Grippatank can get you a cold set up, and then bolt the heater on at a later date.

That’s what I’d go for personally.

.....how are the  windows and frames cleaner with hot water?
There’s not an ounce of dirt left on the windows after iv cleaned mine with cold so I honestly can’t understand this statement Jonny 🤔

we have only missed 4 days in the last five years to being to cold ( only then that was due to bad weather - beast from the east )

we are in east anglia - so generally milder than up north

i've provided hot water via immersion heaters and the guys like the softer hoses it provides but in general they are happy to run cold all year round

The biggest thing for you as a new starter is to ask this question on ANY piece of equipment - is it something I need or just something I want

to me  £4.5K and the ongoing running costs do not justify the comfort of supple hoses and a tiny (if noticeable) increase in cleaning times

It’s true , there is definitely a marked improvement in cleaning , I used to use propane L5 over the cold spells only so never saw the long term effects it had , but since building my own diesel heater I have kept it going full time and since January it has made a world of difference.
I'm so lazy I'm getting tired of it !

There's a lot of wibble on here about hot but you find it tends to be from the same faff types who fall for every gimmick or snake oil that comes onto the market.
There will be some who work on the coast or in wooded areas that might find it a benefit but for most it wont make the slightest difference in either the clean quality or speed, put it this way if you ever lose a customer to somebody using hot it will be down to your incompetence and nothing more.

Hot water has some small advantages, but you won’t be cleaning more windows in a day because of it.

It’s an unnecessary luxury.

I’ve gone back to cold, and haven’t noticed any difference what so ever to my cleaning. I’m just quids in as cold is cheaper!

I’m sorry Jonny but can you explain how hot water produced by a diesel heater can get the glass cleaner than hot water produced by an immersion heater? I have used both and in my experience  both give the same results.

There might be a good reason why nobody has suggested this as an option..........

Its simple, the more money you spend heating the water the better it becomes at cleaning, that's a scientific fact. lol

I think it all just comes down to experience.

if it’s placebo that’s making me get through more work and having my best months ever then I’ll
Take it. I really don’t think it is though.

I know this because the first 2-4 months of me using hot water I was actually slower.

It was actually giving me issues in a few cases, run marks and drip downs that I never had before. I put this down to hot water cleaning deeper into the frames and getting dirt out that I previously wasn’t touching.

Now I’m over 6 months in with hot water (hotter than I ever could get with an immersion) certain windows in particular are noticeably cleaner on my visits.

Windows in rural areas are no where near as greasy with tree sap as they used to be,
Certain annoying Pvc frames with gaps that always trapped dirt and had algae growth every month now have considerably less on them.

Have you used HOT water for Atleast 6 months consecutively? And by hot, I mean Atleast 40 degrees on the glass?

If you havent then I can see how you’d think I’m making it up. Go by your own experience though and not what others “think”.

Dig back through through Jonny's posts and you will find the exact same results with Vision that he's now getting with hot, we even got the you need to be using it for a certain amount of time to see the true results wibble, its like these guys have a hole that can never be filled.
