So as a newbie who is yet to start trading but taking time to look into the business as much as possible from vans and van setups canvassing and pricing.

Not one to worry about working in all kinds of weather as I am an outdoors person I was wondering what the general consensus was on hot water WFP advantages over cold if any and also best hot water system to add to van setup.

Ralphie - go and get some customers first then worry about hot or cold. If you’ve not even started yet then no point spending loads of money to find out you don’t like the job.

Shrek - Fortunate to be purchasing a good round off a retiring friend so working in my spare time to assist and get up to speed.

He is retiring, so old!!! also old school so once taking over will be starting  with his customers but all new gear (just lucky to be able to afford at the moment before wife spends it) and so have the time to investigate all avenues so that all purchases made are  with best advise hence the post.

Lol I know you've all missed my very amateurish videos, so here's one to satisfy that hunger  ;D :D

A quick, test clean of some filthy gutters with nothing more than a good brush and hot water.
Vids not great, as the sun is blazing down, its one handed etc but it's not about critiquing the quality of the vid, but to show how just hot water alone is good for cleaning caked on dirt.

Yeah playing more bowls at the moment than working full on 6 weeks every night trying qualify for nationals,HOT WATER is better it’s not comparable with a tank of water with vision in it.
All systems should be sold as hot imo cold water is for the pikey boys 😂.
I don’t need to prove to others it’s a better way of working I see it everyday when  I work with it,I’ve knocked hours off of the same cladding and plastic wash downs I’ve done in the past with water less hot-cold.

So you genuinely think that is quick, seriously if possible connect to the customer tap and you will speed that clean up no end.
Plus use an extreme stiff for gutters like that, its a lot handier.

Mate, it's done with one hand, whilst trying  to film n focus,,,,,, hence its a amateur video lol.
Obviously with two hands and  someone else filming you'll see how much quicker it is.

Fair enough but if you're going to make video showing that hot is quicker/better do you not think you would also need to clean part of it with cold to show the difference, better still connect to the customers tap and show how it cleans as well, without doing this your video proves nothing and is a pointless exercise.

It's taken on the basis that people know how long it takes with cold because currently that's what they will be using. Or perhaps with chemicals as well.

This did show however, the ease in which the grime came off.

it looks to me that you emptied the gutters about 30 mins before shooting that video nathan, cold water would do the same job just as quick......

however if the gutters were bad with green algae all over them then very hot water eats through the algae a lot quicker than cold water.....

There's no doubt really that hot is quicker on really dirty surfaces. If you do doubt that, well you're not to be taken seriously really. The question is whether it's faster enough to make the investment. I remember cleaning a dirty conny roof, covered in algae. I couldn't understand why it was suddenly so much more difficult until I realised I'd ran out of diesel.

No mate, it's a window customer's whose windows are done 8wkly and when I saw how bad the gutters was and with this topic in mind, I thought it was ideal just to clean a small section. Plus mention this to the customer as a test patch and enquire if they want them cleaning.

Just asking like 😁😎

My, My - this always gets a bit 'heated'  ;D

NK - the less said about your video's the better - but really, you need to show say 3 meters done with hot compared to 3 meters with cold - because quite crudely 'your pace' is not going to be the same as others -  so please make it a like for like

I am of a mind that yes, Hot makes a difference - but not THAT much of a difference - certainly I would not be making more buy paying out 4.5K JUST to get hot

I mentioned placebo - because quite frankly if you buy a new brush you have find yourself cleaning quicker and this hey! this is the best thing since sliced bread, when its really just a change that makes you clean quicker..

I give you the case study of the factory where the light bulbs were changed for brighter ones - instantly the production rate increased - people were happier at work - all was good - six months later the production had slowed down - the light bulbs changed again this time to the original dimmer bulbs - guess what production increased !

You wont get a like for like video because hot users (especially the  expensive diesel users) don't want to see anything that might mean they have wasted their money, anybody can come on here and make any claim they want when they dont have to prove it.

Its the same with the snake oil sellers, a like for like video would have worked wonders for their sales if there was actually something to see, problem is there isn't.

You could also equally say that cold water users want to justify the fact that they can do just the same job in the same speed with cold.

Look at all the above posts, those with hot water say it's better, those without say you don’t need it.

Round and round in circles we go.

I’ll always have a hot water system for as long as I’m window cleaning now. It works for me, if cold works for you, then great.

Oooh mr grumpy 🤪 - I’ve used hot - it’s more comfortable to use and at the end of the day makes the day easier and I could probably get an extra house clean in but 4.5k plus running  costs is (IMO) a crazy business decision - for one man bands I see the attraction and that’s fair enough but it’s a luxury not a necessity

I have an LPG heater in my van that I very rarely use as it makes absolutely no difference to what I have to remove from the glass, if I was getting a fair amount of stubborn bird poo or tree sap then it might save me some time but this wouldnt be the case, luxury for me means not wasting money on stuff that has to be paid for by cleaning more glass.
I think for most on here its more of a status symbol than something of any real use.

ive had a fellow window cleaner on the phone today moaning about spotting on the windows,he uses cold too...hasnt got a pot to p*** in and has been window cleaning for many years......... ::)roll

my water has been at 60c at brush end even with 100m out today!lovely......i had a first clean to do first thing, ive got another one to do tomorrow(5 bedder),ive also had loads of glass with those little yellow spots, baked on bird muck, etc today which is a pain to remove with cold water, one pass with very hot water and it melts away....

i can understand guys that employ not spending money on a diesel heater,it would cost you a fortune to kit say 5-10 vans on the road but for the sole trader with a good well established round why not?mine was a 25 year anniversary present to myself.love it........ 8)

this is the time of year when hot water makes the most difference as its virtually boiling hot at brush end and cuts through the dirt much easier than cold water systems....... :-*
