Help Fiat doblo owners and mechanic brains
« on: May 19, 2019, 10:55:15 am »
Hello everyone

Was driving my Fiat doblo 90 multi jet
14 plate

Yesterday and oil light came on
Little red oil can symbol
Flashing sometimes stops for 20 seconds then constantly flashes

Check oil level but levels fine gave a small top up about a coffee mug full

Drove home as only a few miles away

Green flag came out and run diagnostics tests 2 lots of software no faults found

Guy said get full service and engine flush as oil is black

When I bought van from dealership they did service jan 2018

But noticed on their checklist they hadn’t ticked oil change
Was assured oil was changed

Next service was 22,000 miles or 2 years
I do 9000 miles a year but town driving

Manual says oil and filter change every year if town driving
(I know should have read it 🙆🏻‍♂️)

What do you guys think?
Getting van serviced Wednesday morning

Can I drive van locally?
Got work due tomorrow and Tuesday
Under 5 miles driving

Anyone know if red flashing oil can means service due?
Or any ideas, green flag said no oil leaks, oil pressure guage ok

Thanks lee

The oil light is indicating a lack in oil pressure.

Needs either

  • Oil & filter change
  • New oil pump or
  • New oil pressure sensor

Probably number 1.

I wouldn't be driving it.

I'm guessing you have a 1.3 engine.

They have small sumps and a capacity of less than 4 litres I believe and need an oil change annually, whatever your garage told you. My 56 plate had an oil change annually and "my garage" told me that they are excellent engines but really need an oil change regularly or they "gum up".

Sounds like a flush and oil + filter change is needed pronto.

It's a game of three halves!

Could be "oil quality" warning light. Some DPF systems dilute the engine oil, this only happens if a filter regeneration is interrupted multiple times. The crazy this is that most vehicles give no indication when an active regeneration takes place- thus can't actually be avoided! We have 2.2 cdti engine which does this.

Not to be the bringer of bad news,  our friends Mazda had oil light come on like this - like idiots they drove it another 5 miles for the engine to blow up - the DPF had got blocked and starved the engine of oil

its never a good idea to drive a vehicle if the oil light appears whether it stays on or is flickering

How does a blocked dpf starve an engine of oil ???  The two are not connected oil is in the engine the dpf is the exhaust .

that I suppose is correct, as a def failure is more of a symptom that there is a problem than a cause, but not an expert on this so maybe the garage report was incorrect  - the Mazda 6 I think is well known for oil issues anyway

Thanks Fella’s

Smudger, been assured not dpf as 2 different diagnostic tests and no faults found

Green flag guy said dpf was one of the things he looked for first

As mentioned in one of the previous posts:

Needs either

Oil & filter change
New oil pump or
New oil pressure sensor

Hopefully: Oil & filter change, as no faults found🤞

As advice given oil and filter changed annually as read in manual

For town driving.

I think you may well find that it is an oil quality light that you are getting as the warning , I have the Fiorino 1.3 multi , I had the same happen so I did oil and filter only for the light to stay on !
I had to have the oil service light put out via laptop software , cost £30 I recall .
I don’t think that it comes up in a diagnostic check as it’s not actually throwing up a code to read .
Not 100% the problem but worth getting checked out if it does go back on a diagnostic !
I'm so lazy I'm getting tired of it !

oil light flashing means you need to change the oil and filter, check the manual its all in there

you cannot just change the oil and it goes away, it has to be reset using a laptop etc,
