Leafleting in small numbers and Google Adwords
« on: May 09, 2019, 03:55:55 pm »
Thinking of doing 15,000 or 26,000 leaflet drop.

Is it worth doing in that kind of smallish numbers?

What's the response rate: 0.5%?

Also what's your experience of Google Adwords? Worth it? Waste of money?

Cheers chaps

Leaflets
My response rate for leaflets used to be 4 customers per 1000 leaflets. I used to do 5 or 10k at a time.
They always paid for themselves as a few of the custys would also want fsg cleans done as well, so I was generally quids in.
Having said that, I haven't bulk leafleted for a couple of years, as I am now refining my round, and a lot of new window cleaners have turned up, so I expect the response rate to be less, at around 3 per 1000 leaflets.

Google Adwords.
I used to do this, again a few years ago, and it paid for itself, but it has it's problems.
The quick version is there are 2 types, I think it's Google Ads and Google Adwords.
To make it more confusing they are now merging the two.
To cut a long story short, one is a very simplistic version that anyone can do, but in my opinion, is absolute rubbish.
The other is extremely complicated and targeted at huge businesses, so 80% of the software, we would never use.
It's also very expensive if you get it wrong.
I set up a Google Adwords ad for this year and had a Free Google £70 voucher.
But just as I was about to push the button, the phone started ringing anyway, as I have a good position on Google.
I don't think i'll bother with Google Adwords, until the Autumn!

Make sure you are on Google My Business. This is a good one.

Your email doesn't seem to work. Have you got another one?

The general consensus is that you should get 2 p/1000 and if you get 3 per thousand you're doing well. It's a bit of a risk though because you kind of have to clean everything to get your money back and you possibly will be doing some one offs.
But if it was that easy everyone would do it.

Don't forget with leaflets its not just the cost of the leaflets, it's also the cost of your time to delever or paying someone to do it for you.

Leaflet success rate depends on area.  Some you will get a good hot rate, others not a thing.    So trial a few areas first to see what works best.
