slx pole advice please
« on: May 07, 2019, 04:20:09 pm »
guys

i’m about to come back to window cleaning having been trad before. i’ve seen the posts about the gardeners slx poles being an ok pole etc for starting off.  to make sure the one i get first time round is adequate in length for domestic work .when you say buy the slx 25 is this the model as in slx25 (it’s working reach being 30 metres) or the slx22 (that’s working reach is 27 metres)

total apologies for asking such a beginner question used the forum before and had great advice thanks

Feet it's feet.

Yes the 25 will cope with most residential windows, if need be you can buy extension poles for the extra height that might be needed on the odd houses.

Yep. Slx is 25ft long which means when used it can reach upto 30ft.

if you have only one pole its always a compromise on weight/length, you either end up with something too short or something too heavy....

ideally you want 2 poles for residential

a 18 or 22 and 30/35

yes you can use extensions, but swapping about a few times a day will soon drive you mad.

also a plus of having say an 18 and a 30 is the 18 will get most hammer and be the one you replace more often, the 30 should last you years

I have used an SLX-25 for my all day, every day pole since Gardiners first started retailing them! I reckon that's roughly 12 years and it does 98/99% of my entire work. Last year I bought my Third one- so the first Two poles lasted me approx 11 years! Not much more could be said really. 👍

I'm with gomo, in an ideal world an 18 and a 35. an 18 will reduce strain on your body as your everyday pole for 90% of your work, or a 22 if you have a lot of townhouses and dormers. a 35 will reach almost everything else on domestic properties, including velux roof windows.

I use an slx 25 and extreme 47.

Like the idea of getting an slx 18 as a main pole to lengthen the life of the 25 and dave my back a bit.

Been on Gardeners website and I now can't see the option to add a swival neck.  Have they stopped selling them?

Just remember though the 25 closed length is longer than the 22 as the sections are longer, personally I couldn’t get on with 25s so stick to the 22 for tight spaces like working near sides of conservatory’s etc plus I find there’s less wobble in the shorter sections.
I use an xtreme 22 as my everyday pole and an slx39 for the occasional higher than 3rd floor jobs I have, that’s a right old heavy lump and so floppy but as it only comes out 1-2 times a month I can put up with that!
An slx is probably the best all round pole though you can bounce it off walls and it’s still bang on😁

Thanks. But you cant build your pole order with it.  Will have to try and order over the phone

i would say a 25ft pole is ideal ...it certainly is for me too mate, however my preferred pole is an xtreme/SLX hybrid(sections 1 and 2 SLX /sections 3,4,5 XTREME)....its the perfect pole now..... :)
price higher/work harder!

Interestingly, no mention of an SLX27.

Yes, it has an extra section and the base diameter is bigger but its collapsed length is similar to an SLX22.

I have considered this as my next pole replacement when the time comes to retire my SLX22 but the slightly extra weight and base pole diameter 'worries' me.
