Do you work on any bank holidays? Why? Why not?
« on: April 20, 2019, 06:17:39 pm »
Hi guys. Do you work on bank holidays? Did you ever worked? I used to work on some Saturdays or Sundays because I had few well paid jobs only available in that time  but I've stopped. Some chaps said to me that they like to work on bank holidays as they can gain more jobs in short time cuz everyone is usually at home. What's you guys think?

Yup. Money comes first.

 :D ;D ;D

Seriously though. 28 days holiday a year, I'll choose when; not the banks.

Nope I don't work bank holidays but did when I was an employee and shifts and Saturdays and sundays. Now I don't have to and hopefully won't ever need to again. So this bank holiday I've spent time with family doing what I want. Tomorrow I'm going for a picnic and fishing then off to the allotment for a barbecue with friends and family.  ;D ;D

I don't usually but am so busy with some new work that I'm working Sunday and Monday.

No way! It’s nice to have a long weekend, set off to Southampton 4am Friday and Just got back - another 2 days off and fantastic weather to do whatever  :)
Gotta say , there’s some posh houses in Southampton but parking was a flipping nightmare

Yes i work Bank holidays, it doesn't make any difference to me, my hours are 9 to 5 Mon to Sat, I'm finished most
days by 2 or 3pm, so i have plenty of spare time anyway.

How do you manage that in the winter? It’s usually dark by 4pm  ???

It's been said many a times on here and other forums, that the advantage of being self employed is being self employed!
What's the point if there's no advantage over being employed!
When I was in my first couple of years building my work up, I used to work all the holidays and convince myself it's just a normal day. But truth be told, I hated it!  I even worked a couple of Sundays and by time I did a 2nd Sunday working day, I swore never again! Since then, I have never worked a Sunday again and I have most bank Holidays off.

I did a couple of jobs on Good Friday but that's it! Drove to Abingdon on Saturday for a lovely weekend in and around Oxford with partner. Just got back all refreshed and ready to start again tomorrow for end of month rush! Then next Sunday we're off to Spain for four days!

Nope not generally.

Have i ever worked them ? yes but only once so far.... i worked last friday........why? because i wanted to get some work done.

In matters not whether you work them or not as long as you are having other days off and holidays then its up to you. I choose not to because generally everyone is in, kids running round etc i would rather not personally.

I worked Good Friday, just did a well priced conservatory clean, just because I felt like it and 3 days off after that is plenty for me.

The customer decided whilst I was cleaning the conservatory it would be a good time for her, her elderly mother, her husband, her daughter and her 3 large dogs to spend a few hours in the smallish garden getting in my way and being a general pain in the arse.

After an hour of this I had to ask them to kindly remove themselves from the garden until I had finished.

I’ll probably take next Easter off completely.

i generally dont work bank holidays or weekends  but i do sometimes...depends what block of work is due and whether i want to finish an area off or not....or it could be im going away a few days later,etc....

i too worked good friday morning but most customers were busy with other things than sitting in the garden watching me cleaning their windows! ;D

im glad i never worked yesterday though as it seemed like the whole of the north west had the day off! :)

its been a great 3 day easter weekend but ill be working sat this week due to having yesterday off....too busy ATM....
price higher/work harder!

No, I don't work bank Holidays. I don't want to when my partners off. Time together and with family/friends. Also I live and work in seaside towns that are over run with visitors on Bank Holidays. Traffic and parking and getting anywhere becomes an issue I can do without. It would be counter productive.
