Business names
« on: April 16, 2019, 10:04:53 am »
So as a newbie just starting out I like everyone else want that catchy name that will bring me enough work for my needs (don’t want to be too busy as I have a good pension).

Obviously people who have been in the business for a long time have the good names but can I use someone else’s name if I am not in their area, such as using a name of a business in Glasgow if I am working in London - does anyone know the legalities?

Any advise would be appreciated.

I just went with the family name. I feel that it helps with building trust. These people are allowing you onto their property, often when they're not home.

Also I'm a narcissistic megalomaniac.

I wouldn’t overthink it. Having a really catchy sounding name is not going to bring in more work than you can handle.

You can call yourself whatever you like, you just can’t register with companies house if somebody has already registered that name.  If you are not setting up a LTD company then it’s not an issue.

I think Quasimodo window cleaning was a very good choice with current events in mind. 🤭

Or give it a bit of a feminine touch with a woman's name. What about Esmeralda window cleaning?  "If you need a reliable and honest window cleaner, just whistle." ;)

I wouldnt worry about it, youve said you dont want that much work so no point spending loads on marketting and branding.
