How to put euro thread into pole tips New
« on: March 29, 2019, 04:47:23 am »
Put this up so to be able to use pole tips that cannot accommodate euro threads.
Like ErgoTec® Locking Cone Pole, Ettore Locking Cone Adaptor,

How much does the tap cost in Oz?

The cost here will question the viability of doing a job such as this.

Yes that's about right.
But you can get cheaper ones they only have to cut plastic.
Viability ?  If you only need to do a few.
You could always go to engineering work shop for them to do 5 minute job.
Up side is for the suppliers they could sell these tips with the thread in them already to go.

Not exactly correct - your using a parallel tap for a taper male thread - so your not getting a correct fit in the thread

No we where not using a parallel tap.
You have not even looked at video.
Because you would of seen in the video it says 22mm x 2.5 taper/pitch  :)

No, that’s a starter/1st/taper tap - it’s a hand tap to start threads you then use a 2nd tap finally a plug or finishing tap

A true taper tap has the same thread depth at the front as the rear - like the male fitting your trying to screw in - basically your locking up on 2 maybe 3 threads at best instead of the length of the thread - what you are doing is running a real risk of failure due limited contact point

OK you can use that as well if you want if it works for you.
But remember we are only screwing a pole tip on.
Not high pressure hydraulic  connection which probably need closer tolerances to properly stop from leaking. :)

It's only to hold the tip on.

Is that the nearest you can get to admitting your wrong?

Basically you will only have contact over a small area and the rest is play/movement and as soon as you apply pressure to clean it will snap, maybe not the first time, maybe not after 10 uses but it will break prematurely unlike using and tapping with a proper taper thread

Why not take the tip off a cheap brush handle and tape it to the right diameter.
Or for £17 you could have a dedicated Harris pole nicely bodged up for the odd inside trad job. Maybe use the Wagtail pole cap attachment?
