What you should have done was beat the price and told them that you will only start when they lay off the other cleaner , and then never go back !
He’s gonna lose it anyway by the looks of it , I hate people like that , they are already getting a good job at a fair price and they still want to drive the prices down
I'm so lazy I'm getting tired of it !

I just tell them to stick with their current cleaner as I wouldn't do it for that price- if that's the case.

I had this the other day. A voicemail message..

"Oh hi its xxx from xxx in Horsell, i need a window cleaner and am just ringing to get some quotes ? Can you call me back on xxxx thanks."

Yeah ok love, not. Like that's going to be something i want, a race to the bottom. No thanks.

Problem is with these people, they lump their u switch gas insurances  and electric yearly phone around with the window cleaner too, they invariably have a high opinion of themselves, and expect you to be grateful they chose you..with a brand new base model bmw or audi on a pcp deal, mortgaged upto the hilt, and are the sort that will cancel with a bit of rain on the forecast, or will dump you at a moment's notice see it alot this time of year they think oh yeah window cleaners must be looking for work now its summer and they havent worked all winter...pssst.

As said above some people just try to get prices down to a bare minimum,a couple I’ve looked at were spotlessly clean and being done for 2/3rds what I’d quote, some people are annoyed when you say if I was you I’d keep the guy you have, there attitude changes when you say I know the guy the look of horror when they think you’ll be speaking to them lol.

I went to view a garden centre last week as the area manager rang me to quote inside, outside, the cafe & the play area in and out. All to be done trad , I quoted £150 once a month - he later txt me saying ‘too expensive, any movement on price? We pay another window cleaner in our other bigger store £70’
Me- ‘thanks for your interest but no thanks’
Some people want to just give you a pat on the back instead of payment 🙄

I think my response would have been;
So just to clarify if i came to your store to complete my garden with plants, turf and ornaments/furniture. You will be happy to reduce the price by 50% for me dispite your running costs and profit margins!?
Thank you for the enquiry, but im out.

So none of you guys ever look around for a better price ?

When your insurance renewal comes in you just pay it - even if it’s 50% dearer than another company ?

Insurance is a little different due to daylight robbers.
We are talking more I think bout  Fred who is willing to wait in for 3 different quotes to save himself a quid a month
Commercial is always going to be the place to do it as there is always gonna be an undercutter or the fool that will do it for feck all
I only have 2 commercials left , a retirement complex that put the price up 5% a year themselves and a church whose purse holder is one of my domestic custies , so I won’t be losing them .
I also have a massive BHF shop who never try to down the price as it’s a freebie , that’s the kind of guy I am
I'm so lazy I'm getting tired of it !

I don't usually dismiss someone who tells me they are getting quotes for window cleaning unless I sense an attitude from them. I think it is often someone's unspoken way of saying "I don't want to be stitched up so I'll show how savvy I am." I just tell 'em what my prices are. If they don't agree there and then they sometimes come back as anyone else they've asked  can't be bothered to quote.
It's a game of three halves!

I’m not interested in going and pricing a job for 20 quid less than I would normally clean it for I’ve been there years ago,if anything I go well above the price I know most will quote.
The thing is with this job once you have the job more often than not you’ll have it for a long time,I don’t want to be thinking I’ve gone in well under here I could be earning more up the road. £70 for something like the above garden center is not worth the hassle I’ve said it before commercial is not what it was,you used to be home by 12   4-500 hundred pound in the bank.
Those days we’ll and truly over

To be honest I never had "those days" myself.  Maybe I was too nervous to price that high for a few hours work - I also thought "too good to be true" and that the person agreeing to such high rates wouldn't pay.

Mind you saying that I recently passed on a nice earner from a neighbour who wanted an office one off clean done on a Sunday. I wasn't interested but passed it on to Dan the Man who got £350 for working eight hours on a Sunday. Not extortionate but a nice earner if like him you view a Sunday as any other day of the week.

The bonus was he was asked to do it again 3 months later and being much less dirty he did it in 6 hours for the same money.

It's a game of three halves!

Commercial used to be unreal I remember a W cleaners wife I knew once she said to me if you want to earn the real money you’ve got to go commercial only that’s what my husband does,he lost 70-80% of his work back in about 2008-9 almost overnight.

Says you  ;)

P&F - its exactly the same mate - their are people that just like to make sure they get the most from their money - it's ironic all the bluster on here about I won't do this or that - customers time wasting because they want a better price blah blah ....   yet those same people want the best deal on equipment, insurance et al - some on here even thing when they need to take 3 days off for a heated system to be fitted expecting the suppler to give them a van FOC - go figure

simply charge and price as you see fit, and your needs dictate - that's it in a nutshell - you are either cheaper or dearer than the next man - so what - who cares

some on here only do 4 hours a day or 3 days a week - that suits them - others need to do 6 days a week 10 hours a day to meet their bills

Yeah and the ones that only do a few days a week are the ones that think if you earn anymore than 200 a day you’re a liar lol, commercial can be good even now but it’s not reliable these days to many people putting a couple of Johns on the job for peanuts, that way they can still stay at home and earn.
