Power Up HD
« on: March 21, 2019, 02:20:47 pm »
I finally got round to installing my PowerUp HD that I've had for over six months. I have fitted 100m of 8mm HiViz hose from Pure Freedom.
My question is am I asking too much from the reel to expect it to wind in a full 100m of hose? I only ask because it really struggles to wind the hose in. I have to fit the manual handle and start it off. Once there is around 10 metres on the reel the rest winds in with the 12v motor.
Is this normal?

I would hazard a guess not!

More likely a duff batterry or connection?

Naaa, you just need a good DIY job on a purefreedom reel. Its more discreet and kinda on the pocket for a motor and a chain  😂😂😂

I have 100m of purefreedom main hose on mine and ran of a seperate 12v 24amp hour battery.  I certainly dont need to manually start it off, so something is a miss on yours.

Just been to Halfords and had the battery checked. It was only reading 12v so they told me to charge it over night. They did a drop test and they said it's fine. Will report back tomorrow. Thanks for the replies.

I don't have a Power Up reel.
But logically the first 10 metres of hose should be easy to reel in as there's no hose weight on the reel to slow it down, I would of thought?
Do you think that maybe the hose or spindle might of been slipping initially?

Hi,
I think it's just the sheer weight of the hose when full of water. When I pull it up the road it feels heavy. The first 10 meters I think would be the most difficult due to the smaller diameter of the drum? I think? :-)

it shouldnt struggle to wind in the hose........im surprised you managed to get 100m of minibore on a HD reel, does it not come off the sides?sounds like your battery hasnt enough power left in it at the end of the day to wind it in properly,do you not have a split charge relay fitted?

why are you using 8mm hose in the first place?your just making your working day harder than it needs to be......microbore(6mm)is far easier to drag around

its doesnt work like that andy.....when you have all 100m out it actually puts more strain on the motor due to the sheer weight of all that hose on the ground.....still it should be man enough for the job...unless his battery is flat....

Sounds like lack of battery I have 1 they are fantastic I would never be without 1 now,it reels in super fast if it’s working properly.
You can reel 100 mtrs in easily in under a minute.

The first few meters is always the hardest work, my aching arms will attest to this.

The reason is that the spindle has almost no weight on it to act as a flywheel.  As the spindle gets heavier with the weight of more hose on it, it stores energy in its rotation and becomes easier to wind in.

Does it have the over spin adjustment bolt in too tight? I did this and it struggled to reel in. If so loosen it a few turns and it should be fine

Update.

Bench charged the battery last night and it is showing 12.7 on the controller. Pulled out the full 100metres and laid it out on the road. Made sure the overspin allen bolt was loose and gave it a try. It really struggled to get moving but once it did it started to pick up speed. I think that it would really struggle on some of the houses I clean, hose going around corners etc.

To overcome my problem I have chopped off 30 metres of the Pure Freedom hose and joined on some red Exceed hose I have to go with my tubeless pole. Tried the reel again with this set up and it's much happier and does a good job. I just think the full 100m of Pure Freedom hose is too heavy for the Power UP HD reel. I will order some blue hose from Waterworks and try that.
