I find this quite suprising  that the largest domestic window  cleaning company in the country , doesnt  do this anyway , as far as Ime aware it is a legal requirement vosa can ask to see records at any time , if they are not in place then look out .
But apart from the legal aspect it makes good buisness sense , so you have a written record of any defects , any action needed with a particular vehicle , this protects both the employer and employee, you as the employer are legally bound to make sure the vehicle your staff are using is safe and road worthy , how can you do that without a written check list , , a 6 monthly visit to the garage isn’t going to pick up on any issues for a long time . All commercial (hgv or lgv) and public servjce vehicles have to have a 6 weekly maintenance check by a qualified person , to make sure they are road worthy .
The employee by doing the daily / weekly checks is also then accepting the vehicle is safe and road worthy covering his back and yours , I cannot belive a company with that number of vans doesn’t do this , just asking for trouble should the worst happen , buisness these days have to be pro active with this type of thing , I only run 3 vans but we have done this from day one , most other buisness I know are the same , I think this is an area you should be looking at very seriously, not that Ime in any position to tell you how to run your buisness, but this is a very basic level of record keeping that’s needed in the modern world .

Dry clean is stop on - his method may rub you up the wrong way but anyone with an “employee” needs a log

To add to that our guys sign a safe driving policy, no smoking in vehicle - no drink or drugs - drive safely and within the speed limits (50 for single carriage ways 60 dual carriage ways ) no erratic driving or visual signals to other road users

Any of the above can result in written warning to instant dismissal

My problem is I don't think Lee is genuine so I tend to be rude in my replies to him, will have to wind my neck in.
He uses his own name, we all know who his company is whereas nothing at all is known about you other than you’re a rude, anonymous troll and you have the nerve to accuse Lee of not being genuine. You’re an idiot.

I’ll investigate further but I think Lee is correct that there is no legal obligation for daily checks.

There is an obligation to keep vehicles maintained and therefore safe and from what I can see best practice is daily employee checks but there’s no legal duty. I’ve 4 commercial vehicles and any reported faults are sorted ASAP and services carried out according to manufacturer’s instructions. I check the tyres myself regularly.

I suspect those that target commercial work will be forced to for various accreditations related to the main contractor’s legal obligations as they interpret them.

I think any H&S consultant would advise daily employee checks but as usual Dryclean in his desperation to point score is wrong I think but I’ll investigate further.

What I think about Lee is none off your business so dry your eyes, but as I said there was no need to be rude so will leave it there.

Thread locked.

A couple of points please.

Language needs to be moderated as per the forum rules.
If you are going to report a posts don't use said language in your report.

Dry Clean - you have overstepped the mark with your personally abusive posts and a quick scan read would seem to indicate you have acknowledged that. You can make a valid point without being abusive. Your regular sniping detracts from the forum.

Lee Pryor - you have inspired some on here and piqued the interest of many with your reports on how you conduct your business. Perhaps developing a thicker skin and letting your work stand on its own merits would lead to a more peaceful forum.
It's a game of three halves!
