Hozelock type Brass elbow fitting repair
« on: February 21, 2019, 08:11:07 pm »
Not being a tight ass but anyone know if it's possible to repair these when they start leaking on the swivel part? It must only be just an 'o' ring inside surely? I see it has an allen bolt fitting inside and slots for an open end spanner outside but I still can't get it apart. They seem so hit or miss. Some last months, others leak almost immediately.

You can part the two pieces and there is a O ring inside. This internal O ring is not the same size as standard hozelock O rings. Best thing to do is buy some "silicone" grease from a plumbers merchant and grease the existing O ring- works for me.👍

The thread won't leak if the washer is good.

How d'you part the two pieces though? In a vice or something?

They are tight but it will move. Have an extra weetabix tomorrow. 👍

A tube of this in your van is beneficial, great for all rubber seals, O rings etc.

The last couple I took apart had thread lok on them , but they do come apart .
I have given up on them now though , I use these now £7 at Homebase , made by Gardena .
I had a tiny  drip at 100 psi but nothing at all at 55 psi , it just depends on what psi you’re system DE’s at , well worth a punt at 7 quid though
I'm so lazy I'm getting tired of it !

ive never had one of them brass elbows that didnt leak after a short while!annoying as hell.....

these days you dont need them if you buy a decent heavy duty reel as they come with industrial brass rotary joints as standard....they never leak...
price higher/work harder!

Use them on my entire system- leak free. Never had to speedline/waterproof any of my vans in over 16 years. The problem seems to be that people get a leak and instead of finding out why and rectifying it, decide they are no good and swap their entire systems out to an alternative.

Soupy I use JG 1/2” throughout. These elbows are just for our four fixed reels. I wouldn’t know how else to connect to the reel?

I don't have a link. They come with Cox reels and never break (you need to replace o rings in them sometimes). I think grippatank sell them but they're like £50 or more.

I wouldn't connect it to a 1/2 garden hose, I use john guest fittings.
