 Hello chaps
 Having new system fitted back with Max in a month or so is time but still not sure if I should have fixed rooms in the back stacked on top of each other or just have independent rules what do you think I should go for

Seriously though, I use reels that are removed, although I’ve often thought of fixing them in. What puts me off is the idea of cutting a hole into my van floor.

You don't need to cut a hole in the floor. The hose will fit under the back door & the van will still lock.

Fixed. I’ve got a roller in van floor but rarely use it. Mostly leave the rear door open unless in a rough area.

Its a lot quicker as well...open the doors grab the pole and away to go instead of faffing about lifting reel out and connecting to ports.

If I need to lock doors it sits under the door frame and bumper gives enough to lock up or just close on hose works fine

For those that leave their van doors open whilst working, your tools insurance (if you have it) will be void if they're nicked. Van needs to be locked.

We have fixed reels and mostly use a 25' SLX pole. If we left the doors unlocked on our vans it's basically a 'come and get me' from the 50' Super Max & other poles & equipment. Sod that!

Semi fixed.

I have a cheap claber reel that sits in a little trough made of 3" x 2" to snugly fit round the hose reel frame on a ply base which is screwed to the van floor. It has a small piece of metal which can be swung over the bottom rail-frame of the hose reel thus keeping it "fixed".

On rare occasions where taking it our will help - tight parking spots etc. I can move the bit of metal which is held in place at one end with a wood screw, lift the reel out, place it on the floor and shut the van doors on the first latch over the feed hose.

The fact that the first 33 metres of the reel is pole hose means it is lighter too.

I've always had a reel that I lift out.  Although there are disadvantages, it does help when the hose needs to go through a windy route, especially if it's around car tyres or similar.  I have been known to carry it beyond the tyres, unwind to the windows, then walk the main reel back to the van to connect up.  There aren't many jobs like that though.
For me I think the ideal scenario would be one fixed and one free.

I'm assuming he's a water fed pole sydtem installer

 I used to lift reel in and out of van years ago, but stopped due to backache, the reel is now fixed, and so is my backache.
